  1. Wow. From the bottom of my heart, I wish all of you the best of luck. Admittedly my anxiety for this did not hit hard until the last month or so, but I can not imagine what it would have been like without this thread of fellow applicants stressing away with me.

Even through the negative trolling, whether you have been a frequent “poster” or just a casual reader on the forum...I truly believe those who visit sites like this, ask questions, and pester NSF/PI’s are the go-getting scientists of the future.

    It has been an honor.

    -engineerwoacause....out!

  2. I don’t think I’d read too much into that. Seems to me like a person on the phone was told “early April” previously, and, as it is now early April, can only say that.

Being that we will probably receive results either this tuesday or friday, does anyone know how we receive them; do we actually get an email or is it through checking the applicant status page?

    Email will contain the results

Was looking over the NSF GRFP website and saw this:

"For GRFP applicants and reference writers who are located in Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands and other islands in hurricane-impacted areas there will be an extension of the application and reference letter deadlines until 5:00 p.m., submitter’s local time, Friday December 29, 2017. Submitter’s local time is determined by the applicant's mailing address. "

i knew there was a delay but didnt realize it was until Dec. 29th. Do you think this will substantially change the release day?

I’m assuming not. As suggested previously, the amount of applicants/reference writers in the said areas are relatively minimal compared to the entire applicant pool.

With such a long review process as is, I wouldn’t expect to see much difference.

Mine still says 8pm-12pm. Where are you seeing this?

If you tried to access Fastlane homepage last night, that’s the message you received.

I asked if we would find out before decisions had to be made April 15th and this is the response I got back.

It seems to me they are just sticking with their generic answer of early April

What time does the alert generally appear?

It seems anytime before 9pm the day before. However, my skeptisism is due to the first alert. If there was in fact two alerts prior to awards being released, I would expect them to be back to back. As someone previously mentioned, last year’s forum (which two alerts were shown prior to the release) had no posts in which just one alert was present; hence why the two should be close together in my speculation.

But technically we should have until 9pm tonight before giving up completely on tomorrow

Is it possible that results are announced without the second alert?

It seems, based on all the previous years, Fastlane will be shutdown the same time period results are sent out. So without that second alert, I’d say it’s unlikely

  9. But based on last year, I would not yet disregard the chance of another announcement; it does closely resemble the first announcement of last year..

Read the prev post closely: the announcement was made a few days prior but the actual maintenance occurred during the time notifications were delivered, and sustained for a long time.

In other words, based on the prev two years, it seems like results will come tomorrow morning.

My apologies, but I am not quite following.

First (bottom) announcement: Fastlane will be down Friday night- Saturday morning

Second (upper) announcement: Fastlane will be down Thursday night - Friday morning.

So we tentatively have the first announcement, just waiting on the second. Or am I still way off? Haha

Two years ago, there was an extended shut down day of release (March 29)

Then last year, day of release was March 17th, According to posts on this page:

03/15/17  -  FastLane will be unavailable from 10:00PM ET, Thursday, March 16 to 5:00AM ET, Friday, March 17 for scheduled maintenance. We apologize for any inconvenience.
03/15/17  -  FastLane will be unavailable from 10:00PM ET, Friday, March 17 to 10:00AM ET, Saturday, March 18 for scheduled maintenance. We apologize for any inconvenience."

So I feel its likely to be results tomorrow..

So theoretically...we should expect one more alert indicating a smaller shutdown for this evening/tomorrow morning if tomorrow is our day

That person is probably just messing with us.  It could even be the same person that said they would come out today that created another account.  I really wanted it to be today because I had an early flight so I could actually be awake when I got the email.  Maybe my initial prediction of 3/23 is right?  Are there any explanations for the Tuesday/Friday pattern?  Could it be just luck?

I suppose it could be just luck, but seems like a large enough sample size that some explanation must be behind it in my opinion.

And yet that person also commented "A colleague from National Science Board (NSB) that is a part of NSF says the awards will likely be announced on Friday morning" on the other thread...

Hahah that’s beautiful. Gotta love people...
