Thanks for the advise! I hounded them both today and they both got them submitted right away! One of them totally forgot about it. lol. One thing off my list of things to worry about.....now comes the wait..

Hey, does anyone know how strict Laurier is in regards to reference letter submissions? I have three people who agreed to write me letters, and only one has submitted so far. They're only given 2 weeks to submit from the date I applied...so the due date is this Friday. Personally I feel like 2 weeks isn't much time. But anyway, here we are. I'll speak to my manager at work today about her letter. But the other one is a co-worker thats's in a different building. She isn't responding to my emails so I have no idea what she's doing. If I decide to change my referee to different people, will they be given another 2 weeks? Starting to stress big time!!!

They told me yesterday that for January start we should know by August. That seems unlikely given Sept start hasn't even found out yet. It would be nice to have a few months notice to work out the financials though.

Thanks for the offer, and the info! Coincidentally, someone from the university called me today when I was in the middle of writing my personal statement. lol. I asked her and she said it could be done either way. But said that most people just write it as one big essay, so thats what I did. I just found it kind of hard to make it flow properly. But it's done and sent in now. Now comes the wait... ughhh.

Hey Noelle, do you mind if I ask a question about the personal statement for Laurier? I'm working on mine right now for January admission. Did you answer all three questions separately, or did you write it all as one big essay? I'm kind of confused as to what kind of format they want it in. Thanks! Hope you hear something soon!!

Just a question, throughout the 2.5 years of the program, do you get any breaks at all? Or is it straight going for that whole time?

I believe you're supposed to fill everything out in the grey box underneath. I'm going to type it up in word so I can check spelling errors and stuff, and then copy and paste it back into the grey box. It sounds as though they want all the files to be uploaded as .pdf files as well, so I'm going to convert everything to .pdf when I'm done filling it all out.

Does anyone know, for Laurier's MSW application, there is a "Summary of Experience in Human Services" form that needs to be filled out. Do you just fill out the info requested in the table? Or are you supposed to provide details of your job and what you did as well? Or will the resume be sufficient in regards to the details of the job? There isn't much of an explanation on the website.

I spoke with someone at the school, and it also says on the website that if you've been out of school for a while, it's fine to just have 3 professional references. That's what I'm doing. I've done a couple online courses over the past year, but had minimal contact with the teachers so they wouldn't know me well enough to give a reference.

Wow thats soon! Good luck; hope you have good news to tell us all in a couple weeks! My grades are my biggest downfall as well. I started out university back in '99 as a Computer Science major. lol. That went downhill quickly and the grades I got in my second year of uni totally messed with my GPA. I've done a couple courses over the past few years and got 80%+ in those, but it still doesn't bring my average up much. Do you know what they mean by a half-credit? The website says they want a B average in your last 5 full-credit courses or 10 half-credit courses. When I was in university, a course was a course...3 credit hours I believe. lol. I also have my LPN program where my overall average is like 85% but I don't think they'll even look at those grades because they're from a community college.

Thanks! This makes me feel a little more confident. lol. When are you expecting to hear back about September intake?

I have a question regarding the Laurier application process if anyone is able to shed some light. The "Summary of Experience in Human Services Organizations" form. What is considered human service experience? I've been a nurse for 11 years and have been told that nursing is considered a human service. Would I just list all the jobs I've had in nursing? In regards in volunteering, how much weight do they place on that? I'm a mom who works full-time with zero time to volunteer. I've done a couple small things over the years, but nothing really related to social work. Is that even worth putting in there?

I just checked the website and it says the due date for January 2019 is June 28/18! Just a month away! Eeeek! I better get cracking! lol
-
Is that for the MSW online program for students with their BSW? Or the program for non-BSW students?

I'm about to apply for the January 2019 start date. Wonder what month acceptance letters would go out? They don't have have a deadline listed for applications yet.

Hey everyone! Just wondering for those who have been accepted into Laurier's online MSW, is it 2.5 years straight going? Or are there any breaks in between? Also, in regard to the electives that are required...are you able to do some of these in advance? Or do you need to be admitted into the program to do them? Thanks!

Hi everyone, I’m new to this board. I’m considering applying for Laurier’s online MSW for students with a degree in an area other than SW. I’m looking at the January 2019 start date...anyone else? I’m so nervous to apply because I’m not sure my grades will be good enough to get in. My GPA in last 10 courses is a B+. I have my BA majoring in anthropology, minor in sociology and certificate in criminology. I also have my LPN diploma and have been working as an LPN for over 11 years. I’ve been back and forth between MSW or Athabasca’s masters in counselling psychology. If I don’t get accepted to Laurier, that’ll be where I try next. Does anyone know how strict Laurier is on grades?
