Oh it's real alright! The call came somewhere around 3:30 PST. Thank you to the above people who have congratulated me and wished me well...it truly means a lot to me. I'm literally dying and can't believe this is really happening. I appreciate the fact that my POI/committee chair took a moment to tell me that no, this is not a mistake, because I definitely was and still am feeling like this is a huge accident. I sounded like a bumbling idiot on the phone and just cried and kept saying THANK YOU SO MUCH IM SO SORRY FOR CRYING. Luckily he was really cool about it and understood. Pretty personal, but I am actually the first person in my family to even complete high school so this is literally the most incredible and unexpected honor I could ever have happen to me and my family.

I've heard similar as well so I am beyond thrilled. So far my only official offer has been from UC Irvine and I have been a bit nervous about what appears to be a lack of student parent community.

Also, can we just talk about UCLA's BS system for checking rejections? They create like 500 screens of anticipation and then finally the last screen says "THIS NEXT LETTER IS VERY IMPORTANT. MAKE SURE YOU PRINT IT AND KEEP IT IN A SAFE PLACE." then BOOM rejection letter.

I got an email for a Yale interview. Wasn't given much info at all besides that the admit committee "produced a long short list and you're on it." and "yes, it will be an interview but a very informal one." Not sure if the names on the list were divided up amongst professors to call, but that would explain why they are going out in waves. I think this would be plausible since the prof that emailed me has interests aligning with my own (even though he isn't someone I mentioned in SoP.

Like, if I didn't turn in the app payment, why would you offer me MA acceptance? I'm obviously broke af and can't afford $58,000 tuition. Lol.

Dead serious. I filled out all of the application but never turned it in because it was already December 14th, right before Christmas with two kids and I really couldn't afford any more apps. Fast forward to ten minutes ago and I received an email from GSAS telling me to check my portal because "An update has been released for your application." Went into the portal and there's a link to check status...I checked status and there's a letter rejecting me from the Ph.D. but offering me acceptance into the MA. I remember clear as day that when I was filling out the Columbia app I declined the offer to be considered for the MA. Uhm, What?

Am I the only person that got rejected from Columbia without even applying? This is my life.

I'm getting my wisdom teeth out tomorrow.... I figure at least it will distract me through the weekend. So that's exciting I guess. lol.

Same. I'm 99.9% sure I will be rejected just because the fit wasn't really strong for me with their department. I'm literally begging for my first rejection at this point. All I have are implied rejections. I NeEeeddDdD ClOsSuUrrREeE.

I feel this. All of my mentors were like "TRUST ME, you're going to have to end up deciding who YOU want to accept." I did get into Irvine, but am sitting on 4 implied rejections at this point. Did you already hear anything from Brown? I see your signature indicates that you were rejected?

Is this the calm before the storm? It's February 5th and I've heard from 1/14 programs. What kind of sick joke is this?

Sitting here at my children's birthday party checking the GradCafe results board. The struggle is real. I can't wait for this all to just be over.

Yes, this. It was just an email to register for a webinar on how to decide on a program with allllll the offers we are receiving. :insert sarcasm here: I actually took out my sign so that I don't freak anyone else out who is the same sign, but yes, I am a libra too lol. Good news is that while today says it is supposed to be one of the most challenging days, tomorrow is supposed to be one of the best for us.

I woke up feeling like I was going to make February my bitch, but my horoscope is sad af ? Feb 1, 2019 - A goal you've recently been on the verge of attaining may suddenly hit unexpected setbacks. However major or minor they are, it's going to be disheartening. The only thing you can do is pick up the pieces and move on. The goal isn't dead in the water. There are only some extra tasks that need to be done before you achieve it. Do what you have to, and hang in there.

Totally just guessing here, but based on the results board from previous years... It looks like they call all the admits on one day rather than spreading them out.

I'm pretty sure it's safe to assume I have implied rejections from UC Berkeley and UCLA. Cal did phone calls yesterday offering acceptances, and UCLA has done 4-5 rounds of offers via email. The only two schools I felt somewhat confident in and the only two I feel I had a decent shot at. I'm 99.9999% confident that my life is over. Excitement: I brought hot Cheetos to work today. So that's cool.

Wow, that sucks so bad. I would definitely reach out to the schools you applied for to update them for a new number that you can be reached at, especially if you did apply for Berkeley. Berkeley's acceptances went out via phone this year, last year, and I think maybe even the year before too.

AHHHHH CONGRATULATIONS! I know you were hoping for UCLA so that's awesome! You are literally slaughtering this cycle lol.
