Haha oh wow, I hope you're right! Where do you have left to hear from?
-
Best of luck! Hope an acceptance is in store for you. I'll keep my hopes up but its beyond me why someone would turn down Yale.
-
In 2017 Yale sent out interview requests on Jan 31, and held them first week of Feb (same schedule as this year). They didn't send rejections until Feb 28 that year (all fields). I'm assuming acceptances came in a few days before that. Just some hardcore tea leaf reading for any hopefuls out there ? ?♂️ Update: I emailed Yale to ask about app status. They made decisions yesterday and will be sending out later this week. I am waitlisted!
-
Yeah, this is my plan if I don't get in anywhere I like. Wow! That's peculiar but exciting nonetheless. That does sound like a waitlist.
-
Haha true, though from results page it looks like they usually send those out same day as acceptances. I'm really hoping Yale releases acceptances tomorrow though. Assuming no one here's gotten in yet.

Congrats! You've been doing pretty well this round it looks like. thanks for the info too. That restricted call I got probably wasn't Harvard then. It was probably God calling me from Area code 333 to tell me his plan for me. Unless divine intervention can thrust me through the gates of Yale I will probably be playing Waiting Game 2.0 with the penn waitlist. If anyone's accepted to the Musicology PhD at the University of Pennsylvania and is sure they won't be attending please let them know
-
Did you get your phone call from DGS or a person of interest? Congrats again! Yeah Stanford seems to represented at some places. I've only ever seen CUNY Musicology PhD holders teaching at CUNY (theory is a different question though)
-
Congrats to harvard acceptance! Did you get the news via a restricted phone call by chance?
-
I got a Restricted Call this morning while in class. They didn't leave a voice mail. Was really hopeful it was Harvard or Yale informing me of acceptance but i got no follow up voicemail/e-mail ?? I probably will only opt to go to grad school if I get into Harvard Yale or UPenn. My other remaining possibilities don't seem to place that well into tt positions. It's beyond me why people probably much smarter than me give a hoot about prestige. I search 30 music depts across the country, HYP, UCB grads across the board (musicoology)

Anyone who interviewed at yale musicology hear back

Down town

Thanks for the tip. I'll give them a call on Monday. I hope things go well for you at Princeton, its an incredible department.
-
I did not. I expected it as well.
-
Rejected at Princeton, waitlisted at UPenn.
-
Yeah, I'm hoping for good news from Yale and princeton in next few weeks, they were (at least to me) the best fits!
-

Have you gotten interview at ucla

If this is relevant to anyone, here's very general dates acceptances are sent out for some musicology colleges: Princeton Feb 7-10 CUNY Feb 9-15 Harvard Feb 12-14 Penn Feb 13-20 NYU Feb 14-23 Yale Feb 15-19 Columbia Feb 19-29 (but seems like it will be this week?) Brandeis Mar 5-19 UCLA Mar 5-20 Some more accurate ranges for this year could be inferred from how soon after interviews they typically inform acceptees . Sorry, I love making tables and charts and what not. Also Columbia appears to do musicology/theory separately correct?
-
Yeah you asked me that, I remember you. I pretended I was unaware of the website to keep online/real life personas seperate??? Honestly I butchered that musicianship evaluation... CUNY Musicology interview was last week and anticipating decisions this week.

From what it looks like to me the vast majority of MAPH students receive no/little aid (looks like half tuition at best for the applicants who demonstrate "exceptional academic promise"). Nothing near the full tuition remission+stipend+health insurance of PhD programs guaranteed for 4-6 years. I am not paying a single dime further on school so I won't bother with anything less. In any case, MAPH seems like an weird top-down way of forcing the music department to work with students they rejected. I imagine I would feel awkward hanging around, doing a masters thesis project, with a department that rejected me. I was rejected from Eastman theory on Jan 12, (didn't get interview) musicology (1 week after an interview on Jan 23), and Indiana theory (1 week after oncampus interview). They've probably concluded their processes by now. This coming week we are likely to hear acceptances from CUNY (at least for musicology), Harvard, and Princeton if this applies to you.
-
They did not, but at least from previous yrs, it looks like acceptance are generally released 2 weeks after interviews and rejections soon afterwards. Which would be the week of Feb. 18. I'm under the impression they did all their interviews this previous week unless theory/musicology is handled separetely. Yeah got my rejection too in the form of a MAPH referral. I'm hoping in 14 days I'll have an acceptance under my belt...I'm feeling pretty good about it but we'll see. I'm mentally prepared for shutout if that happens.

Lol i get ya

Congrats! can i ask what kind of niche music you are a nerd for?
