  1. Thank you for the comment, that explains a lot. By the way, did you drop the names of the professors that have similar interests with you (without contacting them)?
  2. Thank you for your reply. When I went through the homepages of professors, one stats professor stated "Do not e-mail me about graduate admissions in Statistics at UW-Madison. Admissions are handled by the departments, not by individual faculty." So I assume it would be the same for most programs.
  3. Hello, I saw online that some people have contacted professors in the grad program that they are applying to before the application season even started. Does it really matter to do so in stats program application? Does that make a difference in the decision, let's say, for PhD admission? Thanks in advance for your response.
  4. Thank you bayessays for your kind reply!
  5. Hello, I am an undergrad. I will apply for Ph.D. stats fall 2019. I major in math. I am doing undergrad research with professors in geoscience (mostly laboratory work), civil engineering (machine learning with MATLAB), and math (computational, PDEs). Should I ask for recommendation letters from geoscience/civil engineering professors? My other option for rec letters would be math professors that can only talk about my grades. (I don't know if this is necessary since my grades are already shown on my transcript/GRE). Thanks in advance for your comments.
  6. I would say watch out for non-NSF funded. Few NSF funded programs accept international students but you will have to pay like $5000 to get into the program.
