  1. Seconding this - numbers this year were bad enough already, but what about everyone who put off applying this year due to COVID will reapply next year...due to COVID? I wonder how bad other fields are now.
  2. Solidly there myself. I wake up every morning nowadays feeling like I just drank a freshly brewed cup of Nope Roast©.
  3. For what it's worth I finally caved and emailed a program (the dept) that I had prelimed with more than a month ago. If they're just now sending out invites then I wouldn't, but if it's been a while I think it's increasingly becoming fair game at this point.
  4. Yes! Especially the spammer afterward: "read better." Uh, they clearly didn't include the info? What even is happening right now?
  5. I think that in some situations at least it's reasonable - if you had positive contact with the POI beforehand, seems fair to me to ask for some insight (even more so if they personally let you know that you were not chosen this cycle). Open to any counterpoints on this however!
  6. I feel the same way and have wondered that as well. While I can certainly sympathize, it ultimately just creates more clutter for everyone now and in the future to have to dig through. I have a hard time believing they haven't made it to this forum and seen there's a place for those sorts of Q's.
  7. I'm in the same boat - I suspect they're sending out rejections and/or keeping a handful of applicants on a short list in case someone has to turn down their invite at the last minute.
  8. Anyone else still anxiously waiting for Georgia State invites to drop? They're one of my last hopes left ?
  9. I'm basically going to do what I've always tried to do, which is pursue those experiences which I believe will best prepare me for the next round. Realistically, I believe that means moving to a new lab which will fill the gaps in my CV. Of course, that's easier said than done, especially nowadays! I'll admit it's hard to motivate myself to potentially uproot for a new job, but it will probably be better in the long run. (Unless it would somehow be seen as worse for me to be moving to a second lab post-BA as opposed to sticking it out for longer in one?)
  10. If it helps I applied there too and haven't heard a peep. Given there hasn't even been a mention on the results page so far, it appears safe to assume their schedule has simply been thrown off.
  11. This, there's literally no benefit to themselves beyond simply messing with people. True chaotic evil if you ask me! ?
  12. I totally get the PI's response as well, although that still leaves the applicant in something of a conundrum. If the PI ultimately needs someone with neuroimaging experience and you don't have it then...what? Sure, the conclusion is that you go get some, but it's not like it's a given you can easily just go get accepted for a position that will allow you to build that experience. It can be so difficult to get any RA job for some people, much less one that is perfectly modeled after your own interests. I think some PI's are more understanding, while others essentially expect to pick from the cream of the crop. Is the person who went to a SLAC any less inherently competent than the Ivy-league alum with lots of experience and pubs already earned by graduation? No, but realistically you're going to have a much harder time as the former. It honestly feels rather "sucks to be you then" sometimes. ? Bah, don't get me started on this too...friends and family mean well, but sometimes their suggestions can leave you feeling a bit "wow thanks I'm cured!" This process can feel so incredibly isolating sometimes.
  13. I knew those were too shifty! You would have had to be a truly off-putting person to actually get rejected with those sorts of stats.
  14. Hi! Helps to hear it’s not just me. I did see someone had a prelim already, so I’ve been on tenterhooks since. I suspect February too at this point.
  15. Since we're asking, I'm curious to know if anyone here applied to UW-Madison (clinical) and has any idea of their timeline?
  16. I can, I'm all but waiting on rejections from several at this point already. I'd love some closure and stop feeling so hyper conscious of my email.
  17. I noticed this, too! I'm a historically terrible sleeper and total night owl as a result, so I am not stoked about this. It will be barely dawn when I get up too, I seriously hope they don't thrown the most intensive stuff at us first. If I have to do my PI interview first thing, I'll be doomed. ? (Also I really hope they give us a proper lunch/Zoom break...) I plan on trying to get up a bit earlier the days leading up to it so my body can adjust.
  18. I believe there is truth to this, it's easy to become fixated on those things that feel so reflective of our own situations. And let's be honest, this crowd runs high on neuroticism...! If it seems to come from one user in particular the last few days, then yes. ? Having applied to one of the same schools, I can state for a fact you don't need that sort of experience to get the POI's attention. If it's the former situation, then I must wonder if that attitude came across in their application materials/interview. Let's hope not, but nonetheless, humility goes a ways too folks.
  19. On the note of the results section: at what point does posting one's background stats go from "providing helpful info for future applicants" to "entitled"? I've wondered with a few posts...
  20. Admittedly as someone who applied to UGA I am a little sympathetic, but ultimately these posts don't add much (if any) usefulness to the results sections. Surely they realize the threads going here and can use them accordingly. The results section is not one's personal messaging board!
  21. Nope, I had written myself off actually. Just checked my mail and lo and behold they had reached out. I'll give them credit for being communicable. For what's it's worth I did have a prelim there, don't know if that's typical for all POIs there or not.
  22. I just got an email sent to me specifically from the head of admissions, so I'm afraid I couldn't say as to the scope of the list or if they've finished sending out notices. Fingers crossed you get one!
  23. For those who applied to UGA: all invites have been sent out to first picks, but there is an alternate list for the formal round. Just learnt via email.
  24. Universities and associated medical centers are the best places to look.
