  1. I'm interested in Masters programs that offer 3-year tracks for out-of-field applicants. I have found some posts in this forum about the same topic but they contained some inaccurate, dated info. Some that I have found include: Montclair St, Radford University, Howard, and University of District of Columbia. Please list any others that offer a 3-year option!
  2. Hi guys - as a prospective grad student from New Jersey - I'm looking at all the possible schools in the area since I know it is very competitive. Does anyone have any info on Stockton's program? On EdFind, it says they accepted 32/32 applicants, the average GRE Verbal score was 145, and the GPA range is 3.2-4.0. I find it hard to believe they accepted everyone who applied. Please respond if you have some knowledge on the subject.
  3. I don' think superscores are permitted. Pretty sure you either have to submit scores from a particular test date or from both dates.
  4. Thank you! I took the free practice GRE Magoosh offered first to see where I stood. On that, I got a 157 Verbal and 144 Quant. I just tried to learn as much vocab as I could and do as many practice fill ins as I could. Magoosh has a good vocab builder page. Also I read a lot of articles, reviews and stuff online - so I promised myself anytime I saw a word I didn't know - I would immediately look it up. I was an English student so it comes way easier to me than math
  5. Thanks! Yes i don't have much experience.. I worked as a "brain trainer" for a tutoring company for 6 months where I helped kids improve reading and logic skills.. And I was a firefighter for 6 months before I decided I didn't want to work in that field anymore. So I'm changing gears - I just hope programs will view these experiences as somewhat relatable. I'm looking into volunteering at a nearby hospital.
  6. So I'm an out-of-field candidate looking to start applying to programs next year. My undergrad GPA from Rutgers is 3.25 overall and 3.5 in my major (English). I honestly was just not focused back then. Knowing that this is low for Speech programs, I studied the past month and took the GRE today. I got a 164 Verbal and 151 Quantitative score. I will not receive my writing score for a week or two. I'm currently taking Bio and Stats at a local community college and will be taking leveling courses through Utah State online next semester. My goal is to get all A's to offset my Bachelors GPA (obviously easier said than done). Do you think I should aim higher and retake my GRE or should I focus on other aspects of my application more?
  7. Alice, thanks so much for the in-depth and honest response. I agree that crushing my classes right now is the top priority. I was never focused during college but I'm a few years wiser now and hardened by some rough professional experiences. So I know I'm going to do way better now. Also, 320 for the GRE sounds like a great number to set my eyes on so thanks for the direction! 159 Quant is going to be really challenging for me but I'm gonna try my best. Thanks again for thoughtfulness.
  8. Yeah I think that would make the most sense. Unless there is a program that would include pre-requisites. But even so I think it makes the most sense to just strengthen my resume over the next year to increase my chances. Im excited to start my SLP journey but have to admit it’s a bit overwhelming and complex!
  9. So I recently decided that I want to become an SLP. I'm a few years removed from undergrad where I majored in English. My overall GPA was 3.25 with my major GPA being 3.5. I took a Kaplan practice GRE today and my results were: Q - 144, V - 155. I realize these scores and GPA are not super competitive but I am hopeful that I can get into some programs. Just enrolled in Stats and Bio at my local community college. Also applying to Kean's Pre-Professional program where you take around 7 CSD courses. I am hoping that I can crush these classes, raise my GPA and develop relationships with faculty to get some good LORs. Also looking to volunteer at a Children's hospital in the fall. I have brief work experience in tutoring, serving, security, firefighting and more. I would like to go somewhere in New Jersey but I'm unsure if I'll be competitive. Do you guys have any advice on where to apply or what I can do to improve my profile?
