  1. Hey all, I thought I should post my final results and decision for future reference. I applied to doctoral programs at Baylor, Dayton, Loyola Chicago, Marquette, and Wheaton to study systematic theology. I was interviewed at Wheaton, and was waitlisted at both Baylor (without being invited for an interview) and Loyola Chicago. I received offers of admission at Dayton (4/20) and Marquette (2/24), and accepted Marquette's offer a couple of weeks ago (Tuesday 4/11). Today (4/29) I received a notice that my tuition will be covered for two years of course work and my dissertation. Stats: BA in Biblical Studies and Pastoral Ministry from a small Christian Churches/Churches of Christ Bible College (regionally and ABHE accredited). GPA: 3.95 M. Div. (with thesis) from a different Christian Churches/Churches of Christ University (regionally and ATS accredited). GPA: 4.0. GRE 730 Verbal 760 Quantitative 5.5. Analytical Writing I am extremely excited to be attending Marquette and I'd love to hear from anyone else who is starting there in the fall. Grace and peace, Joe
  2. I forgot to mention, I found the powerprep practice exams predicted my scores more accurately than the ones that came with the Princeton review Cracking book. They also give you a feel for what the test is actually like.
  3. Hey laconic, I had a great deal of success using Barron's comprehensive set of flash cards (you can find them online here: http://quizlet.com/223824/barrons-gre-vocab-flash-cards/), the Kaplan GRE Exam Advanced Verbal: Your Only Guide to an 800 workbook(see http://www.amazon.com/Kaplan-GRE-Exam-Advanced-Verbal/dp/1607144964/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1301501259&sr=8-1), and Princeton Review's Cracking the GRE for strategies for the quantitative and writing sections (see http://www.amazon.com/Cracking-2011-Graduate-School-Preparation/dp/0375429786/ref=pd_sim_b_9). Those three resources should get you far. It takes a long time to study the vocab, but its worth it (IMHO). Best wishes as you prepare. Joe
  4. I received two snail mail notifications today. I got a rejection letter from Wheaton, and another notification that I am waitlisted at Loyola (this one was from the Dean of Graduate studies, the first was from the theology department). Grace and peace, Joe
  5. Congrats on the Duke Div. acceptance Phenomenologist. I received an offer of admission to Marquette last night. Unfortunately I'm waitlisted for funding. I was also waitlisted at Loyola Chicago. Grace and peace, Hermeneut(Joe)
  6. I received an offer of admission to Marquette last night (unfortunately I am waitlisted for funding). I am waitlisted at Loyola Chicago as well. Grace and peace, Hermeneut (Joe)
  7. It appears as if two students have received notices of acceptance for Marquette's Ph.D. in theology. Care to share details? Please PM me if you don't want to make a public post. Thanks in advance, Hermeneut (Joe)
  8. I agree thoroughly. I'm taking an online course in reading French through the University of Arkansas and Stack is my textbook. It has been quite helpful. Grace and peace, Joe (hermeneut)
  9. They were all sent out on Monday evening, as far as I know. I sent you a personal message. Grace and peace, Joe (hermeneut)
  10. Wheaton invites will likely go out Monday afternoon/evening. Grace and peace, Joe
  11. Any word on how many they have notified/will notify? I know you applied for NT and wondered if they were staggering invitations with the other programs(as I think has happened in the past). I sent you a PM as well. Grace and peace, Joe
  12. Someone posted a Baylor interview notice in the results? Care to share details, mystery person?
  13. I haven't yet. Shortly after I sent in my application, Julie Hueber sent out a mass email saying invitations would be sent out around January 20th. I expect we should hear sometime this week. I noticed that you originally planned on applying to Baylor (in a previous thread) and wondered why you decided not to do so. Hope you are doing well in this agonizing waiting process!
