Anyone know if they’ve said early April in the past and then released results in March? Thinking that’s unlikely to be the case this year but would like to hold onto hope that maybe we could find out tomorrow ?

The problem is that it said early march up until today, so it's basically guaranteed that they need a bit more time. Whether this is a full week or just a few days, we don't know.

Ah, my apologies. I didn't know that Friday-Saturday maintenance was weekly. Checking FastLane's archives indeed shows that weekly maintenance occurs during those times. I guess there's really no good way to tell that results will come before they're actually meant to come. Let's hope for something good to happen on Monday, then.

Well, from what I have seen maintenance during the week does indicate that the results might come, they also show up on the GRFP portal a couple of hours before the maintenance, so that might be our signal. They haven't released any results on the weekend yet, so I really doubt anything is coming today.

I used the Wayback Machine to view last year's archives of nsfgrfp.org and I didn't see a similar announcement saying to expect results at the end of March. Going by what happened last year and the year before (according to last year's thread), there might be maintenance announced tomorrow into Saturday that will signal that results might come out next Monday into Tuesday. Fingers crossed!

Well, about that, they announced maintenance for Friday on the 16th:

03/16/22  -  FastLane will be unavailable from 8:00 PM ET Friday, March 18th, until 8:00 AM ET Saturday, March 19th. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Edit: I got this from last year's thread, this might ruin some people's night but it might be released tonight or tomorrow morning.

Edit 2: False alarm, this seems to happen every week.

  4. I really don't feel like you should go to a school if you feel embarrassed about going to it, hell, I feel like you shouldn't even have bothered applying if you don't want to go there at all. If you are so dead set on going to a top tier school, maybe you should have used the money on your safety schools on applications on other top tier schools, at least that way you have a higher chance of getting the prestige.

Yeah, I'm applying to CS too much I don't understand why it is so quiet. Some of the schools that I applied should have released admits and rejects by now. But... no sign...

It's especially frustrating because I have friends who got acceptances like a month ago (but for math instead of CS), and there's other people posting on the results section who have gotten waitlists and interviews, but for some reason I chose mostly schools who just haven't released anything.

  6. I don't even know what to do at this point, all the departments I applied to have been radio silent for two months now, one of them accepted a ton of people a few weeks ago, so I'm guessing that option is probably dead, but the rest have only showed up as a ton of rejects, interviews or POIs contacting a single student to tell them they're being recommended or whatever. My area is CS, which doesn't usually do interviews, but I still can't shake off this feeling of anxiety that maybe everyone rejected me.

  7. I'm applying for a PhD in CS. I have been worrying about what my third LoR since I don't have an ideal candidate to seal my other two letters. Right now my first letter would be from a professor from the physics department I did research with for two years, and my second one would be a professor from an REU I did this year, however, I'm not sure who I should go with for the third LoR. Since I don't have anyone from my faculty yet I feel like I should get someone who is faculty at my department.

My first option is a professor I have a very good relationship with, I took a year long class with her (software engineering) and then I went to help her as a TA the next year. I feel like she can attest to my leadership skills, as well as speak very well about how well I work. The only problem I can find with her is that she doesn't have a PhD, she's an MS.

My second option is a professor that specializes in something close to what I want to do, but was largely against students doing a PhD fresh out of a bachelor's. She likes me a lot though, so I may be able to convince her?

My third option is another professor that also does something similar to what I'm interested, but I feel like he wouldn't give me a letter of recommendation as strong as the other ones, however, he would still be willing to help.
