  1. Yeah that makes sense! I'm really torn just because I definitely want to pursue the Master's program, I just don't know about taking another year off to reapply. Realistically, GPA is a big factor for me so regardless I would have to pay to take extra courses. I guess the idea of doing a one-year program as an introduction into the field sounds really nice but I'm not sure if the time and cost (I would have to relocate from Toronto to Kingston) would even be worth it. Thanks for your reply!
  2. Hey! Just curious.. I am also considering going into a CDA program if I do not get off the waitlist but I'm wondering why you would choose to attend a CDA program and still apply for entrance next year? No judgement here! Just most people I've seen will purées CDA and work in that field for a few years to gain professional experience and then apply again to SLP later on. Just wondering what your thought process is
  3. Hey I'm actually in the exact same situation, currently on the waitlist for Western and this is my second time applying. I'd love to hear your thoughts about making this decision? I'm still torn about whether or not going into the CDA program is the right decision if I do not get in off the waitlist. Hope to hear from you!
  4. From what I remember reading on their website, they say there's actually little opportunity within Quebec and Ontario for McGill student placements and they encourage you to venture out into other provinces, especially more rural areas. I would definitely look more into it, this is just what I remember reading when I was curious about the same thing. I definitely don't think not being bilingual will be a disadvantage to you, it's pretty likely that several people in your class won't be.
  5. They probably won't send actual rejections out until April but since I'm pretty sure they choose their class from the interview pool you should have some idea by then if you have a shot. I wasn't expecting MMI offers to go out so soon and seeing as I didn't get one I'm going to count it as a loss but hopefully they continue to send offers until that date.
  6. From what I remember if you got accepted they will call you personally sometime in the days leading up to April 1st, otherwise if you didn't get in you'll receive and email from them on that date.
  7. Yes exactly! Last year the average for my third year counted for 9 out of 20 courses so it brought me down A LOT. So I postponed graduation and went to school for a 5th year so this application cycle it only counts for 3 out of 20 credits.. it still manages to have a substantial impact however I would have had to take at least 3 extra classes for it to disappear.
  8. Yeah it's tough... I would have to spend thousands and thousands in extra courses to erase the courses from years ago that are bringing my average down. I had a strong 4th and 5th year but just not enough to completely erase my third year from the total 20 courses. Super frustrating!
  9. Hey! So like I said I remember by SGPA being about a 3.55, I had ~180 volunteer hours with adults/elderly population. I hadn't completed all of my prerequisites at the time, now all of my prereq courses sit at a grade of 81 or above. I would say I didn't get in because of a combination of gpa, volunteer hours/lack of multiple populations, and possibly a weak letter of intent. In hindsight my application wasn't strong as a whole and I hope my application this year is stronger.
  10. Hey! As it stands mine is currently posted as 3.69... it's lower than I expected and it's frustrating because many of the courses listed are in the 3.9 to 4.0 range but it averaged out to much lower. I applied to UofT, Western and McGill last year with a 3.55 I believe and I didn't get in. You should feel very confident about your current SGPA, the range posted for some schools for the accepted class is usually a 3.8 so you're right there! Congrats!.
  11. Spaces are counted as characters in the submission box!
  12. Hey everyone! Not trying to be pessimistic but I'd like to be prepared for the next year or so. If I don't receive any offers this year I'm wondering if anyone has any advice/input on how to beef up things like experience/references being out of school? If I have to reapply next year I'll be out of school for 2 years, so I'm a little concerned about academic references. Also, I can't afford to not be working full time while I'm out of school so committing to a lot of unpaid volunteering to gain extra experience would also be a challenge. Just wondering how/if anyone here has managed to balance improving on their applications while keeping up with work and other commitments and well life haha. Any advice is welcome! Thanks and good luck to everyone as this application season comes to a close!
  13. Hi everybody! Quick question about getting approval for a prerequisite (for McGill in this case). Does anyone know if they require the course outline from the year/semester that you took the course or if a more recent outline is acceptable? I don't have copies of the outlines because I took these courses several years ago. Just thought I'd ask before reaching out to some profs. Any help is appreciated! Thx.
  14. YES. I extended graduation to save some money on taking all the extra courses, and it's especially frustrating because I've had to take several courses for just ONE of the programs. I also have courses expiring so I guess I'll have to start again with more prerequisites (and intro prerequisites to some of those prerequisites). Also, the average they used from my third year is what killed by Sub-GPA to I'm trying to get rid of that year completely...
  15. First time applicant here.. and as of 2 minutes ago just received my third rejection. Not all that surprised (I considered not even applying this year for fear that this might happen) but still devastated if I'm being completely honest. Hardest part is now having to face everybody that heard me go on and on about applications and schools and say I wasn't even waitlisted. I'm finishing up this last year as strong as possible and looking forward to a much improved application next year. Just want to say congrats to anyone here with good news and thanks to all of you that offer kind words and support to the rest of us. xoxo
  16. If you applied to Western your application status may be updated. I just checked and mine updated on their website before ORPAS.
  17. I just did. 2:14 pm (Eastern)
  18. Hey Amanda, Thanks for your previous reply to my post, glad to know we're in the same boat haha. Honestly the stress of maybe not getting in almost led to not even attempt to apply, but you lose nothing! From the people I've spoken to, its VERY common to apply more than once (obviously not ideal though). At least for us, seeing as we've been playing some "catch-up" this past year, I've just come to realize that there's only so much I can do in that period of time to do extra volunteering/improve bad marks from previous years, etc. So for me, I'm putting a lot of focus on what I CAN do, which is the statements of intent and trying to secure the best possible recommendations from my referees. Every single one of us has something unique to offer in the field, focus on that! Best of luck!
  19. Hi guys! So nerve-racking to actually be posting here after lurking for so long.. So I'm a student at UofT, finally graduating in June with a degree in French Linguistics (random I know), applying to UofT, Western and McGill. MCGILL IS THE DREAM, I've been wanting to go there since high school and I hope (PRAY) that my French background might give me some sort of edge since I would pursue bilingual placements. I feel like I've been taking extra courses to apply for years, still have a few more to go next semester. My biggest concern is that I decided to pursue this going into the 4th year, so I feel like I've been playing catch-up to other students that have been volunteering for years and have stellar GPA's (i.e. some of my third year marks suck and are going to be included.. ugh). Anyone else feeling the pressure?
