So I got an e-mail today saying that I have a message on the portal. My heart was racing while I was opening the message, but it was only an aknowledgment of my submission. It says that the decision will be made at the meeting in March and they will let us know within three weeks after the meeting.

Funny that it takes them three months for an aknowledgment, the deadline was in November...

Hey, were they specific in the acknowledgment about when the meeting was going to take place in March? For mine, they specifically stated I would here from them after 8th of March

Hi I have received similar mail last week, if is any update let me know please

I got similar email, however after February 2020 the wrote (results will be announced after March 8th, 2020 at the earliest). Last year by this time, I knew my application was rejected (my status changed so fast). I'm wondering why they are so specific this time.

  3. Hello everyone! I see a lot of people are freaking out up here. This is the third time I am applying for DAAD PhD Grant so I suppose I have some experience. There are few things that some of you should probably take note of;

    1. 'Selection Made' and 'Pre-Selection Made' means nothing. This is how the steps work. Application Submitted then to Selection/Pre-Selection Made then to two options, either Funding or Application Rejected. Sometimes, it moves straight from Application Submitted to either Funding or Application Rejected WITHOUT seeing 'Selection/Pre-Selection Made'. Others may not even see a response on that section where 'Application Submitted' is for days.

    2. There is no need to panic especially at this time. 70 to 80% of the selection meeting will be done in Bonn in the first week of February. After that it takes several weeks, sometimes months for them to key in responses to all applicants. You can imagine, as a result of the number of application they receive in a year, require them to do a lot of work. Sometimes there are a whole lot of bureaucracy that needs to go along too (The father of Bureaucracy (Max Weber) is a German you know) including sending the results to your home country etc.

    3. Each and everyone of us is well qualified for a scholarship and its probably not an easy task deciding on as many qualified applicants as this one. Last year (or so) and guy was so pissed off for being rejected he started accusing DAAD of racism and all those stuff. It wasn't healthy. In order to prevent a complete breakdown I suggest you look for other options JUST IN CASE. If you are really interested in studying in Germany, you could look for other options in the form of scholarships from other foundations, own funding etc. That will help BELIEVE ME!. We are all gonna get a response but it will take some time.

    5. I wish all of us the very best of luck.

    Hi Gyedu,

Thank you for sharing your update.

May I know what it means by the Selection Made? Does it mean the application is successful?

    Thank you.

Selection Made simply means a decision has been made on the application. At this point, the next change in my portal could be either Funding or Application Rejected. Selection Made, unfortunately, has nothing to do with how successful an application is. It is just DAAD telling you a decision has been made concerning the scholarship you applied for.

    Hope this helps

Thank you for the info, Ellacity. Following this discussion, my application status is still "Application Submitted" and never received any confirmation letter; though I was interviewed on Oct 2018, the copies were recieved and the pre-selection committee has surely sent its feedback to Bonn so it could be reviewed by the selection committee, as I was told then. So, I guess the status updates on the Portal are related to the region/country. I'm from Central America.

That's true. I am already in Germany. In December I got a message from DAAD if I will like to attend an interview in my home country or remain here in Germany. I, of course, told them I have already started my studies so I will be staying. After that, I received a confirmation letter via the portal that my application will be considered at the beginning of February. Just some few minutes ago my status changed from Application submitted to Selection Made. My point is, I think DAAD deals with every region differently.

Sure, according to interview panelist, they will meet Bonn during the first week of February, @Gyedu am getting nervous on the selection process, do you have any idea on what they are going to assess? is it an interview or proposals?

I have no idea how the assessment is done, however last year in my rejection letter they stated that they had to make a decision for 48 applicants out of 375, this shows how competitive DAAD is. In order not to experience any broken heart or rejection of oneself (I did experience those last year lol), I will advise if you could possibly calm your nerves down by taking your mind off it for a while. Or perhaps you can look at other scholarship options.

    Dear Gyedu,

Thank you for your response. I hope all friends can get this scholarship. I'm also keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Could you please say the process of selection?

Well, from my experience last year, the selection committee will meet the first week of February and the results will be announced three to four weeks later (however, sometimes it might take longer up to six or eight weeks for everyone to get a response depending on the number of applicants).

But I have not done an interview yet.

    Dear Sayed,

I applied two years ago and I am applying again this year. To the best of my knowledge it isn't everyone that is called for interview. And the fact that you are not called for an interview does not mean you are not going to be considered for funding. I think the interview is country specific. Every country has its own rules. I never attended an interview for my first application but was considered in the application pool (even though I didn't get it). I can imagine the anxiety most of us are feeling right now. Let's just keep our fingers crossed. Good luck to all of us

    Hi Gyedu,

Sorry for late reply. I applied it from Malaysia. Are you applying for Bi-Nationally Doctoral Supervised research grant as well?

Same goes to me. I got an email saying that the application will be selected based on the submitted document. The meeting will be held this month and hopefully, we will be blessed with the DAAD fundings. Mine is Bi-Nationally Supervised Doctoral Degree.

    Hi, Ilyana,

Are you already in Germany? If not, which country are you applying from or perhaps where is your home country?

Hi, I am done with my Interview since Nov 2018. But, They have not contacted me yet since that. The status still the same "application submitted"

    Thanks

Dear Xeviroth, you will just have to wait until the end of March just like everyone else?

Which country are you applying from?

No, I also applied for DAAD research grants (1 year) and portal has been on "selection made" for almost 1 month I guess. No word or email from them yet. I had my interview in October 23.

Which country are you applying from? please

  13. Hi, everyone. Anyone applying for the DAAD Research Grant for Ph.D. I applied last year without any luck so I'm trying my luck this year, again. Three weeks ago I got an email from the DAAD portal asking for my whereabouts in the months of January and February. I have already started my Ph.D. in Germany so of course, I told him I will be in Germany. He then told me that if I will be in my home country (Ghana) there will be an organized interview for all applicants. Since I told him I will be in Germany during the period I was informed then that my application will be decided based on the submitted documents in Bonn and no interview is required.

When I applied last year from Ghana, there was no such message or interview. Anyone also in this situation?
