  1. This! I applied to 11 schools last year and got rejected from all of them. Got one interview so far and I'm already pretty happy!
  2. behavioral neuro and ngp have two seperate admission committees and ngp is the larger program, so that's probably why they were taking a long time
  3. I got excited when I got a phone call today but it was just a robo call.....
  4. Makes sense, it's the week before xmas. This week is gonna have applicants on edge though lol
  5. Ugh, here's to hoping Northwestern doesn't send them out in one big batch... (edit) jk it seems like they do
  6. Depends on the program. Some school's like CalTech do it based off number (GPA, GRE) first but generally committees put applicants in an absolutely must invite/recommended/absolutely do not invite pile and go based off that.
  7. TFW all these schools pop up on the result page but not the ones you applied to...
  8. Depends on the school/program, that's probably going to be the answer to everything on here.
  9. jk seems like they're actually coming out, there's a new entry in the results page. They also to their invites in batches so if you didn't get one I wouldn't worry!
  10. Also, this 2020 thread is a lot more civil than last year's thread... lol props
  11. I saw that one. I didn't apply to CNUP this year but I did last year and they don't extend offers right away, they do interviews first. I'm gonna assume that's a troll post on the results page.
  12. For more perspective, I have a 3.1, 2 years of esearch experience, avg gre, no pubs out at the moment, but I'm working on a first-author paper. Stats are a poor way to compare yourself @whitemocha
  13. there's some stats on the results page already. The email said to pick an interview date by next friday which is UNUSUALLY (3 dates: one in jan, feb, and march). My guess is that who ever declines brandeis will have their spot passed down to the next batch of emails brandeis sends out later in the month.
  14. Yay!!! Surprised they sent out their first batch so soon!!
  15. I spent last night looking at the 2019 thread and seeing when decisions come out lol...
  16. Very true! I declined it due to a multitude of reasons I don't want to disclose, but ultimately at that time it was not the right fit and I am positive I would have mastered out/dropped out if I stayed. Thanks though.
  17. Side question, what if you know professors who are on the adcom? Or you know that your current PI is good friends with someone on the adcom? I'm wondering how much networking is actually going on when it comes to this... I applied last cycle and got into Pitt's CNUP (I declined and opted for another gap year) and I highly suspect it was because my PI at the time was on the adcom.
  18. My own tentative list is: UWashington, OHSU (NGP), Northwestern, UCSF, UC Davis, UC Berkeley (Neuro), UT Austin, BU (not sure which program yet), Pitt and UCSD. I'm currently looking at U of Oregon, U of Utah, UPenn, and Brandeis. Theyre good programs but I'm not particularly SO excited opposed to the ones I previously listed. Anyone know any programs with a solid visual neuroscience subdiscipline/PI's that I may have missed?
  19. That's really disheartening to hear. I wonder if that ends up fostering a competitive environment as opposed to a collaborative one. Thank you so much for your input! I still like the school but I'll do more digging to see which program seems the best.
  20. Very true! I just got massively curious because BU is the first school I've seen that has 3 different programs regarding neuro. I emailed the contact person for A&N and asked if their program is interdisciplinary in the sense that students can choose thesis labs in other programs (as is the standard for most graduate biomedical programs) and they said that A&N students should do research within their department only, which I found bizarre. My current PI found that weird too and said that unfortunately sometimes departments won't merge because of politics.
  21. Does anyone have any info on the reputation on BU's GPN vs A&N (Anatomy and Neurobiology)? Aside from their differences in coursework, I can't tell much of a difference. I take it that GPN has the better reputation?
  22. What are people's experiences asking schools for advice about applying next year? I asked OHSU and they gave me a detailed and personalized response but UCSD (my dream school lol) said "we can't offer advice, there's too many applicants." Which is reasonable, but the contrast was funny.
