Is anyone here applying for a second time? I just started the process again, and have realized that U of T and Western are both eliminating the volunteer hour/clinical reference requirement for this year because of Covid... This is pretty upsetting for a second time applicant who has spent the last 5 years getting as many hours as possible. Just wondering if anyone else is in the same boat here.
Same boat! But it's going to be my third time applying...

Did anyone here also apply to the graduate diploma in Applied Health Sciences at Western?

For those who didn't get in, how are you improving your application for the next cycle?

Hello! Has anyone at U of A (or applying for it) taken ANTH 354 Language & Culture at Athabasca for their Intro to Linguistics prerequisite? I'm looking to upgrade my LING 101 course (from U of A) but likely missed most deadlines, so taking it through Athabasca would be nice! How did you find it, difficulty wise? U of A does site this course as an option for the prereq; however, they have a warning underneath and I'm not sure how that works (especially if I have taken the course at U of A already).
"WARNING: If a student wishes to continue linguistics courses at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, they must be aware that the Linguistics Department in Edmonton does not accept this as an equivalent to their introductory course - Ling 101. Thus the student may be required to take Ling 101, despite having completed this course from Athabasca."
I took it I found it extremely easy! I recommend it!

I was actually rejected shortly after posting this I knew I was a weak applicant when applying but i figured since they were a newer program they would be more open to accepting applicants like me, but apparently not. I think I'm going to try and raise my GRE scores, get a job in a speech and/or hearing related field and apply to schools next application cycle. Best of luck to you both!
Hi,
Can I ask you what your stats were? (pm me)

Hi,
I am receiving a lot of mixed feedback about NYU Steinhardt's online master's program. I got accepted there and at another school but I would be required to move. I don't know if I should choose the program where I would get to be in the classroom (but move across the country) or pick the school where I get to stay home and do it online..
I think hearing from students who actually went through the program or even know someone who went through the program would be really helpful. Please let me know anything you know about NYU Steinhardt's online full-time master's program.

Hey! I actually considered it a few months ago. I thought that these programs were truly 100% online and it doesn’t matter where your location is. But, when I reached out to advisors for some of the online programs, they had said that despite it being online I had to live within the state during the duration of the classes — I think it was for exam/proctoring reasons. I asked if it would have been okay to fly out for exams and she said that it wasn’t possible due to some volunteering/shadowing you have to complete.
If online is something that interests you, I would recommend emailing them to verify it’s truly 100% online. I just wanted to comment on what I found out while looking into these programs.

Hello! I got rejected from Western so I reached out to Janet to see what I can. I would totally do it!☺️
Was Janet able to give you constructive feedback?

For those who applied more than once and got in,
Could you please pm me how you improved your application? This was my second time applying.

Seeing as the waitlist for western is full, I’m assuming that I’m not going to get in this year. From what I could gather the weakest part of my application was having only 20 volunteer hours. I’m worried I won’t be able to improve that number much before the next application deadline due to corona. Is anyone out there still getting volunteer hours while this is all happening? Or do you have any tips? I would really appreciate any input ?
Did you email Janet asking her what your weaknesses were? just curious.

Has anyone here gotten into any SLP Canadian schools with a subgpa of 3.4-3.5? I applied two times and received all rejections; it's frustrating! Western says they typically accept those with a sub-gpa of 3.3-3.5 and higher, but I think this is too good to be true.

Hey! Just curious.. I am also considering going into a CDA program if I do not get off the waitlist but I'm wondering why you would choose to attend a CDA program and still apply for entrance next year? No judgement here! Just most people I've seen will purées CDA and work in that field for a few years to gain professional experience and then apply again to SLP later on. Just wondering what your thought process is
Just curious, I am thinking of the same thing as well. Did you already apply to a CDA program?

Hey! Where did you get the stats for UBC? Their website says they get between 120-150 applicants
ubc is just an estimation. they say that 120-150 applicants apply to slp and audiology so just to be safe, i assumed 50:50

Also - does anyone know what the "average" means on ORPAS on the sub-gpa chart? The difference between my "average" compared to my "sub-gpa" is drastic and my average is much lower... I'm confused about what this means!
average is the CGPA
