  1. I'm starting to feel the possibilities out- maybe for next year! I just graduated with an MFA in Art Studio, but as part of that I also self-published two poetry books and my writing practice has become a much bigger part of what I do. I am thinking an MFA would be worth the concentrated time, especially since I am not coming from an English or Creative Writing background. A break out of school might also be even more wise. It certainly was good for my art practice and I would also be interested in teaching the two.

Very glad to see that there are several programs in Virginia where I am headed!

  2. uuugh yes. My brain is feeling a little scrambled between moving stress and nervousness over how things are going to go once I'm in the department. I'm trying to just focus on the work of packing, organizing and cleaning to keep myself distracted. I'm driving from VA to CA! I'm not driving alone though which makes a big difference. Also my first time moving out of Virginia. We will have time to make a few sight-seeing stops along the way so I try to remind myself to slow down and enjoy the trip.

  3. I'll be moving the first week of September! MFA fine arts program. I enjoyed my visit there earlier this year. I found a room to rent in the old north Davis area.

  4. Successfully found a room to rent!

I'll be arriving on September 7th most likely. What to get done before classes? I know there are things like orientations and welcome week. TA orientation too. Getting a bike! I guess I still need a parking pass though, I know I will at least have to drive to transport art stuff.

  5. Oh my gosh!

I think for painting it will be fine. I've never regretted going for the money in grad school.

When I went to notify Davis of my decision, they changed my funding again so my final decision ended up being Davis.

For future applicants, I really was not expecting to deal with competing offers but if you are patient it can work out fine and in your favor too! I wish I had applied more selectively and visited more schools.

  6. I'll be driving in from Virginia! I have started looking at craigslist, seems like a lot of new places are getting posted for the Fall now. Any advice on renting from out of state?

  7. UC Davis offered a TA which covers in-state tuition plus a stipend (stipend amounts make it a wash for paying out of state first yr)

UMD College Park offered a full ride plus stipend

Tyler offered a TA for two semesters which covered 1/2 tuition plus stipend (so it amounts to 25% tuition reduction)

UNC Chapel Hill would cover tuition with the TA

U South Florida was full tuition, fellowship first yr, TA stipend in 2nd and 3rd years

  8. I was accepted to University of Maryland (full ride + stipend) and to Hunter (my dream school).

I really have no idea what to do. If you have any insight it would be GREATLY appreciated.

I am also considering Maryland! Turned down Tyler, that was hard to do, but the other schools are offering much better aid.

Still a little stuck between UMD, USF and Davis..

  9. Every person that gets multiple acceptances is going to have to turn down some spots.. And they still have time to decide so it's always possible things are still going to open up!

  10. Hey! Just heard I was accepted too. Not sure if I am going yet or not..

Trying to decide between Tyler and Davis and USF. Doesn't sound like I would get much funding from tyler, hard to say if it would be enough of a benefit to outweigh the cost over the other programs?

  11. caus, what did you think of Davis??? It seems like an excellent program and I believe it has good funding (70%+), but Davis is out in the sticks...although...San Fran is only about an hour away :)

    Good luck with your decision!

Yeah Davis is a small place, its nice that you could just bike everywhere. Only one place in Davis really to show, but it is close to Sacramento or San Francisco. I felt good about student work I saw at both schools. They are in the UC system though and they use a lot of words like 'hope' and 'maybe' when it comes to funding. But what they offered me was pretty good
  12. I'm almost there.. Feeling pretty decided on USF over Davis. Any thoughts from anyone? Location difference maybe would be the only thing, but my visit to Florida helped a lot.

Anyone else has questions about usf feel free to message me about my visit there!

  13. I just logged on to my application and found out that I was rejected from Tyler. I know that it did not say that on Saturday. I applied for sculpture, so it may not mean anything for you. Also, I have not heard a thing from UCLA, and their online decisions thing still says that no decision has been made... Anyone know about UCLA?

All I've heard from Tyler is "Applicant denied." That's cold-blooded Tyler. Ha!

Ah. Just checked, Tyler still says 'ready for review.' (Very ready by now.)
