  1. Does anyone know if they are still offering more financial aid? I had some problem activating the account previously and just submitted it today. I wonder whether there's still any chance for me to get some money /(ㄒoㄒ)\
  2. Here's my stats for reference! Good luck for next cycle : ) Program: MBE GRE score: 152 V, 170 Q. 4.0 W Work experience: 1 year full-time post-bachelor RA doing independent research project in language acquisition and sound recognition. Undergrad information: B.A. in Spanish & B.S. in Psychology from PKU, China. Undergrad GPA: 3.5 LORs: Three recommendations from three research experiences (1 PKU, 1 NYU, 1 UCSD). What other schools are you applying to: applied to some phd programs in psychology and cognitive science.
  3. Thanks for your reply! I am already doing a post-bac RA position now (and I find it extremely difficult to find a paid RA position, so I just did an unpaid), but I still didn't get any PhD offer this year. Also my undergrad major was not psychology. That's why I would like to do a master this year. No matter I choose Harvard or NYU I would definitely continue to do an RA. So I assume master+RA would be better than a sole RA in my situation.
  4. I am planning to do a Cognitive Psychology PhD but this year I only got two master offers: 1. Harvard Ed.M. in Mind Brain and Education Pros: One-year program; can freely select courses in Harvard and MIT; Boston has more labs that match my interest where I want to work as RA; I guess I'll love Boston Cons: High tuition; less renowned in the field of psychology; have to apply for PhD even before the first semester ends 2. NYU M.A. in Psychology: Pros: Better psychology professional training; I believe more renowned in the field Cons: Two-year program; don't like NYC; high living cost Anyone has any suggestions? Thanks!
  5. Same for me...not sure what that means...but it's anyway not a bad sign...?
  6. How possible is it to transfer from the PhD program (bio or psych) of one university to another? What about from an institute (e.g. TSRI, CSHL) to universities? Thanks!
  7. For MS offers. I'm more interested in PhD programs, and I thought maybe I could defer my MS offer and work as an RA and reapply next year. If I failed to get a satisfying offer, I can still go back to get my MS. Is it appropriate to do this? Thanks!
  8. And I also think that if I work as an RA there during the admission period, maybe I can have a much higher chance of getting into UCSD.
  9. I am a student in Spanish, and I am applying to psychology graduate programs. Now I have received an MS offer from NYU and an RA position from UCSD. NYU is definitely a great school in psychology, and can give me more background in psychology, as now I am not a psych-major student. But as my boyfriend is in SD, UCSD is really my first choice, and the lab that offers me RA position is also a great fit to my interest. I am also afraid that if I reject the RA offer, I may not be able to be admitted to UCSD in the future. And if I reject the NYU offer, I may not even get a master offer next year. Can anyone give me some advice? Thanks much!
  10. Does any one when the result of Duke Cognitive Neuroscience (CNAP) will come out? Also, I'm on the interview waitlist of this program and it's my first choice. So if anyone doesn't intend to go, please please please don't keep it. Thanks!
  11. Wondering what's happening to USCalifornia psych...
  12. Thanks. But we are applying this year (F19) so we can't modify our SOP anymore. All we can do now is to email the committee about our situation...
  13. Seems the results of USCalifornia psych PhD didn't come out as expected... PS: I guess many people above confused USCalifornia and USCarolina
  14. Thanks...But I also haven't heard any response from my POIs...
  15. Same for me... And anyone knows whether USC gives offer without an interview? (Univ of South California)
  16. But is there a waitlist for interview...? I've only heard of post-interview waitlists for offer.
  17. Anyone know about Duke Cognitive Neuroscience (CNAP)? POI said I am on his standby list for interview. Seems the primary interview dates are 2/22-2/26. Wondering how things would work for me under this situation.
  18. Thanks...then what do you think of recommending within the same university?
  19. I am applying to general (non-clinical) psychology. For example, I didn't see anyone posting USC psychology PhD interview (though one said all interviews had been sent out), but it is said that most decisions will be made by this Friday. So I wonder what is happening. Anyway there's only one day left...fingers crossed...
  20. Thanks for the reply. It seems that thegradcafe didn't send me any notification so I didn't see your reply. My fiancée was not rejected - she hasn't heard anything from the committee, including rejection.
  21. Does anyone know if all students admitted go through an interview? Thanks!
  22. To those who got the invitation from Upenn (non-clinical), is it from POI or from the admission committee? Thank much!
  23. Just got an invitation from Duke...so is it possible that I recommend her during the interview? I've heard once that Duke would give priority to couples (but that story was more than 10 years ago). I REALLY hope to attend grad school together with her. So if anyone knows precedents like this, please give me some advice. Thanks a lot!
