Congrats! I will say that affordable housing and close to campus in downtown Toronto are two concepts that don't work together unfortunately. I think your best bet is to find housing around a nearby TTC station on Line 1 and do a short commute to school.

My school (Waterloo) didn't calculate in terms of GPA but I had a 4th year average of 82% in mechanical engineering, so naturally I specialized into Physics and Math.

I just got my acceptance to MT I/S today too! Congrats on those who got in (and I guess I'll see you all in September), and good luck to those still waiting!

Hi, I applied last year but didn't get in, so I'm trying again this year with some lessons learned. I'm applying for I/S Math and Physics after studying mechanical engineering at uWaterloo. My GPA also wasn't great (82% average in my final year whatever that translates to in GPA), but I'm hoping my teaching experience makes up for it seeing that UofT doesn't take the program into account when looking at GPAs for whatever reason. I've got over 3000 hours of teaching and related experience including high school classroom teaching through co-op placements as well as mentoring several robotics teams including my former high school's FRC team. Your application looks really strong too, so hopefully we'll both get it; MT seems to be a really good program (although the political landscape isn't great for teachers right now).

Thank you. I'd really like to know myself.

Not a problem. I used one of my coop terms to help teach computer engineering and robotics at a private high school in Toronto for 4 months. Another 4 month coop term was at a summer camp teaching really young kids circuits, programming, and robotics. I spent an additional 2 summers as a general manager of a summer camp, and I coached basketball on weekends for about 5-6 years in elementary and high school. So not a ton of experience as I didn't do much during my post-secondary studies (my degree took up way too much time to do much of anything else) but I felt it was sufficient.

I'm at Waterloo for Mechanical Engineering, so because of the co-op structure, I had half of my 4th year marks already in my transcript when I applied. So they probably looked at those in my case. But yup, 2nd and 3rd year were disastrous for me...
-
I didn't apply anywhere else as I'm completing my final year of school and I felt my cumulative GPA wasn't sufficiently high enough at the time to meet other program requirements. It just so happened that OISE only looked at the final year marks which were good for me last term and hopefully this term (they're good going into finals). I'll probably still reach out to them and see if they're willing to expand so I can reapply next year with a strengthened application.
-
I just did too I'm less upset about being rejected and moreso that all they said was that my application was "not sufficiently strong to be awarded an admission space". It'd be nice to know what they thought were weak points so I could improve on it for next year. Do you guys think they'd tell me if I called or emailed to ask?

Yes, that is correct.

Sadly not Guess I'll give them 1 more week before contacting them.

That's what I'm banking on; another Friday, more nothing. I talked to my old high school teachers and they did mention that I/S math and science teachables have the largest pool of applicants though, so I guess it taking the longest makes sense. Goodness, I hope it won't take that long.

Howdy, I'm waiting too; I applied for OISE MT I/S in Physics and Mathematics for Fall 2019.. Apparently in previous years, there were no responses until at least March. If I may ask, what's your educational background and relevant experience?
-
Wow, this thread is pretty empty. I guess I'll jump in and join in the stewing. What's your background and what did you apply for as your level and teachable?
