  1. I got a university fellowship at my top choice and I know 400 people across all the depts were nominated and 250 received it. That being I had no idea I had been nominated until after I got it so maybe the rates of acceptance are lower at this university. I guess each university is different.
  2. Also I know scjobfrms is notorious for trolling and therefore cant be entirely trusted but this thread did provide me some insight on the issue of tiered/equal funding and the process of negotiating. https://www.socjobrumors.com/topic/tiered-funding-vs-equal-funding/page/2 They suggest that differences in funding (even at unionised places like Michigan) come from fellowships/TA/RA funding mechanisms, which I tend to believe. Keen to hear people's thoughts on it.
  3. My understanding is that it should be the chair of the Graduate Admissions Committee - at least this is the case at the places I've been admitted to.
  4. I don't have much to offer in way of advice, but was wondering whether peoples packages have come with dependent healthcare, or whether anyone has attempted to/had any success asking for it?
  5. So it could just be stress-induced paranoia/ me trying to deny the reality of rejection, but I am slightly skeptical about the columbia posts in general. For a few reasons; the two acceptances also posted columbia in conjunction with other acceptances (berkeley and then wisconsin and ucla all at the same time); all of the posts (both acceptances and rejection) were posted after the date they were received. It just seems a strange way to interact with the results board and doesn't seem consistent with what most other people do? Also, it is a lot earlier than they have ever released the acceptances and none of the posters have written on the forum, even though there is obviously a lot of discussion about them. Again, it could be completely legitimate and me just trying to stay unduly optimistic, but is it common for the results page to be trolled?
  6. I feel like I read the small print at one of the universities I applied to (although I can't remember which one) and it said you could only request to view them if you get accepted, which I thought was quite funny, given you wouldn't really need to if you get in!
  7. Another Columbia acceptance - can anyone claim it?
  8. Do you know if the part about 10 + 10 also not true? I'm kind of praying it isn't, as I don't like my chances if this is the case.
  9. Wow this is devastating, but thank you for the inside goss anyway! I wonder how many students they would usually admit? That has to make it the tiniest (and most competitive) program in the country!!
  10. Oh wow, you always assume at least one acceptance will be active on here! Do you know how many acceptances they send out - or is it just 10 + 10 waitlisted people.
