Also, would anyone be interested in a waitlist/movement thread? I don't remember if they had one last cycle but there was one for the 2019 cycle and I found it pretty helpful for those of us who are largely waitlisted well, everywhere lol -

Omg really thank you so much for your kind words. ❤️ It has truly been so great to see everyone grow as scholars and perhaps even more importantly, I'm glad to know there will be such compassionate and supportive people going into academia. I am so happy for the people who have received good news already and I do feel hopeful that a lot of us will continue to receive it either by moving off of a waitlist or getting unsuspected acceptances! -

Thank you so much for this, I have really been struggling the last few days and have been feeling really defeated and self-conscious (from grad apps but also other reasons) and this post made me cry happy tears. I remember my family lost power randomly on Thanksgiving and my mom was so upset because of all the food she had cooking/needed to be cooked and I just started laughing hysterically, because it really does seem like the universe really is laughing in our faces, especially in the last few months! It's really hard to be part of this process and so your words mean a lot to me. -

Thank you! I hope the best for you, too! Agree, waitlists are a special sort of torture but you never know what could happen -

I was at my personal training session today and was *sucking wind*. My trainer asked me if I've been stressed or have had a rough few days. Me: *remembering last night I ugly cried to my boyfriend for over an hour about how stressed I was about hearing back from Notre Dame and getting off of waitlists and that I can't plan anything right now until I know which is driving me crazy* Also me: "hmm.. no I can't think of anything that would be doing this" -

Reached out to Notre Dame just to see if there was an estimated date they might send out more decisions. I received a nice email back from the grad coordinator stating that I was within the top 10 applicants of 20th c British and Irish literature! She said she expects she'll have more concrete news by "the middle of next week." I'm hoping for another waitlist, at least! -

Is anyone else still waiting to hear back from Notre Dame? I'd assume they won't send waitlists out until after their event if we look historically. That's the last school I'm waiting on now. Since I've only been waitlisted at places, I think I'm going to try to log off from gradcafe until I actually hear concrete news back. I do have notifications on, so if anyone has any questions about UConn or anything just send me a dm. Good luck everyone and congrats to those who are having success this cycle! -

Oh yeah it wasn't on the part of the department! In my experience, the department there has been very lovely towards me and I've met many kind professors who actually encouraged me to appeal to apply (and I'd be willing to talk with anyone accepted to UConn about my experience there, btw!) It is a sort of unwritten rule by the graduate school that the department can't extend offers to people who have already received two degrees from there. Basically I just had to write a short statement explaining why I still wanted to attend UConn and what personal reasons I had that would make it viable for me to get my third degree from there. They unanimously decided that they would accept my application though, so it worked out -

Emailed my current program to check my status and got waitlisted! (this isn't a surprise as since I did my undergrad there as well, I had to appeal to apply and figured I'd be waitlisted). I feel at least a little better knowing at least my own program would waitlist me, LOL. -

exactly my feelings! I think at this point I've also accepted my slim chances, but I'd rather just get the waiting over with one way or another so I can focus again and have a more concrete plan for what I'll be doing for the next year or so. -

you know that moment where you know the dishes in your cupboard are all going to crash and fall, but you shut the door anyway and tell yourself you'll deal with it at a future time? that's my mental state atm lol -

Out at Yale!! I've reached the point in the cycle where the spirit of a chill surfer dude has taken over my typically anxious body and is just telling me whatever happens, happens. After all, my cat thinks I'm the best human alive and that should be enough. Also can't stop thinking of "May I offer you an egg in these trying times?" Send help brain broken. -

You can feel free to DM me as well! I am in a similar situation where no one in my family had gone to college and I didn't have any friends in the same field. Congrats on your acceptance!! -

I know I'm late to the party but CONGRATULATIONS. I remember the 2019 cycle we were both feeling pretty defeated and I am so so happy that you're hearing such good news this cycle! You are such a supportive force on this website and I think we are all glad you're here -

Voicing my stress here in the fact that the majority of the schools who have sent rejections haven't sent anything to me yet. I know there are quite a few of this that this has happened to. I'm so torn because on one hand, everyone keeps telling me "maybe you're waitlisted!" But then I think of what happened the last cycle I was waitlisted and never moved off of it and I just can't even entertain the possibility that I could, because if it doesn't happen, I'll be crushed. I am truly thankful and grateful I will have a teaching job either way, but DAMN does it hurt to know even though I might have a few waitlists, I might not get in at all and will just extend my waiting period. Boston College is probably my top program and I'm happy to be waitlisted, but I'm just living in a shallow pit of despair at the moment. Have to wallow occasionally. I'm glad it's the weekend. Hope everyone can relax! And if anyone wants to freely vent, you can always message me on here. -

I didn't either. I'm assuming either rejection later on or potentially we're waitlisted? Not sure. -
