Okay y'all, dreams really do come true - I applied for ONE school only (I'm painfully first-gen lol) and was getting veryyyy nervous, especially since it looked like their results came out a few days ago, but I was finally offered admission to the University of Washington!! ?
-
modesteffect reacted to PoliSci_PhDgal in 2021-2022 Application Thread
Omg! Just got into UCLA! Thought all offers had already gone out so wasn't expecting it at all!
CP subfield!
Aslo, just interviewed at UC Santa barbara - they should start sending other interview invites soon too! It's been a great evening for me

Claiming an acceptance at Georgetown! Email from the professors that interviewed me stating that I got recommended for admission. A good way to end a brutal week marred by rejections.

Thanks and i think i may enter an awkward situation. higher ranks may think i am less qualified and lower ones think i am over-qualified.
plus, i am not hearing anything from duke, rochester, ucla, nyu, which i think are all waitlists, just they dont notify

modesteffect got a reaction from PoliCommsGirl in 2021-2022 Application Thread
thanks for clarification, I really hope those princeton admits etc decline or withdraw other schools they will never ever go asap, because some programs may not set an explicit waitlist machinsm, and an early decline from applicant may indeed give others oppotinuties.
-
modesteffect reacted to jjiffy in 2021-2022 Application Thread
Yeah my fingers are super crossed for you. Receiving all these waitlists is kind of bizarre and I really hope you get an admit soon.

I just feel like when you apply to 10-15 schools chances are that GU is not the top choice. The POI in my waitlist email told me it's really common for them to go on the waitlist, so there's a reasonable chance I got in. He probably sent you a similar choice, but it sure sounded like there was still hope.
-
modesteffect reacted to cber9604 in 2021-2022 Application Thread
Hey, it's still a good sign. You got a few waitlists from great programs, I would not worry about it. I think GU has a good chance of going into the waitlist just because it is not top 10. Keep your head up... for me a waitlist was a great surprise and honor ! Hope it works out.

I'm thinking Stanford can maybe release next week. They released on the 23rd last year but on the 13-14th in 2019 and 2020. So, hard to say, but could happen.

seems a boring week. What schools do we expect to release next week?
-
modesteffect reacted to bmo103 in 2021-2022 Application Thread
If they don’t release in the remaining days of the week, I fully expect WUSTL and UNC to release early next week. I don’t think Stanford will start releasing decisions until the last week of February/first week of March.

Thanks! I will definitely share after the cycle is over (although I think it is actually over since Princeton is my dream program). I have learned so much from this forum although I tend to be quiet most of the time...
Just to share some background info: BA from an international university and MA in Polisci in the US. I am in IR/methods subfield with a focus on IPE. I honestly think GRE, TOEFL and GPA do not matter as much as people say they do, but I think solid research experience really matters (and professors can really tell from your writing sample and SOP).
I was actually hoping for 1-2 acceptances before applying, but the results turned out to be better than what I expected. The cycle is far from over yet, and I am sure you will all get good news soon!

Also claiming an admission to Princeton CP. First admission of the cycle! It seems that the match does matter.
Background: BA (PoliSci) and MSc (Data Science) in Germany, focus on authoritarianism, but currently working in private sector as a data scientist (doing a lot of Natural Language Processing related topics)
