Don't worry about it. Trolls. As for your actual question...I don't think there's a good answer for that. Just comes down to feeling out the schools and asking those questions during your visits as well as simply comparing tuition rates between schools. Lots of the same stuff as undergrad...in-state is less than out-of-state, public is less than private, etc. Just really a matter of seeing where the chips fall after you're admitted. Also keep in mind that there may be outside sources of funding (i.e.: ASHA) but it takes some digging and the funding amount is small (as in, would pay for books for a semester or two). Depending on their mood, Vandy can take a lot of non-background students. The class above me is mostly non-background. What specific areas of SLP are you interested in? Bio would be super helpful in a few research areas

Your GRE is actually very good for an SLP application. I know people that would have killed to have a 1250. You're golden on that front. I think the more difficult thing is to write a good personal statement. That is what will really set you above the rest.

My friend is in the same boat with them too. She was bummed for a bit since it was her dream school but the school she accepted ended up working out better for her in the end.

I had that problem with a few schools. Penn State and Mizzou both wanted an extra class apiece. I can't believe that S. CT St. wants 8 prereqs--that is insane if you have a BA in CSD already!

Hey people, This thread randomly caught my eye because I'm a Purdue undergrad finishing up and heading off to grad school myself If you have any questions about the area or school, please feel free to ask and I'll do the best I can to help! I probably won't know as much about your individual programs (unless you're speech/hearing like myself) but I'll try. Enjoy West Lafayette! I love Purdue and will miss it a lot when I leave. If I decide to do my Ph.D, Purdue's definitely in my top choices. I'd love to come back.

I have horrible, horrible senioritis right now too. Have barely given a second thought to a paper that's due next week and am 700+pages behind in reading for that same class. Why? A. because it's outside my field of study and B. I decided to take it for pass/fail credit...so I figure all I have to really do is pass... At least for me (and for other people) I think I will be better once I am in graduate school, focusing on my areas of interest and getting to do hands-on clinic work and possibly research. I feel like if you're studying something you're really interested in, the motivation tends to follow.

I was/am a member of my school's chapter of NSSLHA and also was in a dance company that raises money for charity. I have worked in a voice research lab for 2 1/2 years as well. I only have about 28-30 hours of shadowing officially recorded, but I'd say unofficially I've observed maybe 40-45.

I agree with all of this. My hometown is about 40 minutes from Bloomington, and though I'm about to graduate from IU's rival school, I must admit that Bloomington would be a wonderful place to live as a graduate student. As the above poster said, it is very, very liberal...probably the most liberal you're gonna get in Indiana, except for maybe parts of Indianapolis. The IU music/theatre program is top-notch so if you're into seeing operas or musicals or shows than that will be an easy place to do that for cheap or (possibly) free. Nashville is the cutest craftiest little town if you're into shops. Brown County is a wonderful hiking/outdoorsy place. Indy is fun, with Louisville and Cincinnati not too terribly far away either. I don't know a lot about either program, but I know that in general IU is strong in SLP. A lot of the people in my program are considering IU at the moment. Personally, if I was choosing between the two schools, I would stick with IU, but that's because NYC would be so overwhelming for me! Hope this helps and best of luck in your decision.
