  1. @cfou13 I’ve heard of people in your situation getting into masters programs for less competitive but adjacent majors (special ed., behav sciences, etc.), getting good grades, and through that, showing they can handle masters level work, improving their GPA, and of course, having a related masters degree on their resume. Expensive, time consuming, and a lot of work, but I’ve heard of people doing it. I would also retake any CDS classes you can that you got poor grades in.
  2. @San Blas, sounds like you’ve had a rough day, and probably more than that. I’m sorry to hear you’re struggling. I do wonder if this is the best outlet for that frustration. As aspiring SLPs, I think a lot of us come here for help and support with the education/licensing process. While I think it’s helpful to hear SLPs experiences, the tone and anger from your post feels unhelpful. There is a medical SLP forum on facebook that I think would be more suited for you to vent and get support. A lot of folks having hard days and asking critical ethical questions of their peers can be found there. I’ve shadowed medical SLPs and while they face challenges, the purpose of their job is clear and they are largely respected by their co-workers. My point is there are better opportunities out there and I truly hope that you find a more fulfilling workplace or path. Best of luck!
  3. Thanks! I do feel like I've come a long way as far as processing everything since I first posted this. I've appreciated the support here and also seeing so many other people getting off waitlists by the dozens. It's just how the game works.
  4. Yes, "imposter syndrome!" That is exactly it! Thank you for telling me about your experience.
  5. Thank you for both the tough love (I know I need it) and comfort! Yup I have a problem with negative self talk generally. Thank you. Glad, I'm not the only one! Professors looking at me differently was one of my greatest fears, so I appreciate you saying this!
  6. I got accepted off the wait list for my #1 school (my undergrad school) and now I'm feeling incredibly inadequate. First of all, I get how this looks -- I got in, I should be happy and there are a lot of people still waiting to get in. So, I'm sorry for being insensitive. However, I can't shake this feeling. I put everything into my undergrad. So much time and energy. I got the grades, participated, did the extracurriculars, got to know my professors, and so on. So there is this feeling of, they know me and didn't want me. Now going into this program I'll know that of my cohort, I was the runt of the litter. Has anyone else experienced this?
  7. I think it probably depends on the school, but I can't really find much info on the program on here.
  8. I have a couple questions about Cal Baptist's program so if you're a CBU grad or undergrad maybe you can help me out. 1. I'm a Christian, but I'm not Baptist or conservative. I have friends who are and I'm totally fine with other points of view, but I'm just wondering how rigid the worldview is in the SLP program. For example, what would a class discussion on transgender voice adjustment therapy look like? Did you find there were/are a diversity of viewpoints present and welcomed among your classmates? 2. I know the program is really new. How well do you feel your program has prepared you? Are you happy with your practicum experiences? Are there any weaknesses that have stood out to you? 3. I don't want to be a total downer - what are some positives?! Thank you ?
