  1. So many people hanging around this thread... Do we actually think something is going to happen today? EDIT: Sitting here learning about (partial) autocorrelations in financial time series to do some ridiculous assignment. Good news would make this all better. 45 minutes until they shut down for lunch.
  2. To me, it'd be strange if they 're-mixed' the subcommittees, as it would defeat the purpose of their existence in the first place. I imagine they exist because each group's ratings will be different from other subcomittees, but consistent within them. That is, if one group gave higher marks than another, mixing them up totally screws over #1 on the alternate's list of a sub-committee that had a 16.5 compared to my 17.9, or perhaps the case where someone 3rd on a list with a 18.2 screws me over. At least I'm hoping they didn't reshuffle.
  3. Oooh... this makes me all tingly... sort of. There's still an afternoon, and one more day left in the work week. Who knows what might happen!
  4. I've started an application, and will submit one to hedge my bets, but given that it's only been 3 months since the first awards went out, and people have received awards as far away as 4 months from now, that does sort of give us the faintest glimmer of hope, since they haven't really told us, "There will be no more awards given out this year". Not only that, but Phalene had the e-mail that distinctly said there were doctoral awards being given out. Though that may have not been the case at the time the e-mail was sent, there is at least one program officer that believes there are more awards to be sent. It seems ridiculous that there wouldn't be some form of first round for SOMEONE, given the Vanier situation. Of course, SSHRC has been defying all logic for a while now. Maybe they told us we were high on the waitlist, and just lied.
  5. Thanks, Mudlark. I wager we are all nice people. Seriously though, this thread had the potential for 2000 posts, but I'm doubting that now that information has run completely dry. That said, I've cut down to checking this thread once or twice a day. I'm kicking the habit, so I tell myself.
  6. And it'll be a longer wait, still. I'm holding out for results by the 8th of October based on Phalene's info, but even that feels unlikely.
  7. Another day without another dollar.
  8. Oh, and happy 1100 post count for this thread.
  9. I can sympathize with the discouragement. I just got word that my TA money is awkwardly broken up -instead of $1400 each month, it's $700/mo Sep-Dec, and $2100 Jan-Apr. Makes things a tad tighter this term than I had planned. Not awful, just worse. The thing I don't understand is how they can't tell who has declined and who hasn't yet. They must know by now, and I highly doubt there are budget issues. They're doing things by the book, I'm sure, so they sent out the required number of awards, got the declines, and should be dishing out the leftovers. Odds are good there should be leftovers, and atleast Vanier acceptances, since the list they released included only people attending Canadian universities... and who would turn down a Vanier if they could hold it? I'm not saying I deserve an award, or that they owe me one, just that they owe me, and everyone else, a whole lot of information. Canuck
  10. Yeah, most of us are in the same boat. I'm first on the list to be bumped to a SSHRC DF, and Phalene is first on the list for a big SSHRC in their sub-committee. It's mostly no news all around, but that's probably due to the hold. From Phalene's information, that hold is over, and we should expect movement SOMEWHERE (on which lists, we don't know,) in the next few weeks. Perhaps by the end of september.
  11. Well, keep in mind Phalene's e-mail said '...monitor your e-mail closely over the next FEW weeks.' It's only monday, and everything starts slowly in a public institution on a Monday.
  12. No, she mentioned nothing of the sort. Perhaps she knows less than other POs? I'm surprised you didn't get the same response I did.
  13. Alright. So Phalene's e-mail spells the end of information for us, so it seems. Michelle's most recent e-mail to me severs all ties: "Unfortunately, at this stage we have been advised to let any alternate applicants know that should they be offered an award, we will contact them via email. No other information is available at this time. [...]" So perhaps one could read into this that there are still awards to be offered. I inquired about whether the Vaniers in my group had accepted, along with an inquiry about the hold, and this was all she was able to say. I wager she would have been a little more apologetic and broke the news to me gently, should this have marked the end of everything. So we shall hold on tight, for the next few weeks. My SSHRC deadline is October 30th, so I think I'll hold off on bothering my referees to just re-submit the same letter until early october. With luck, I'll never have to. Best to all you waiters out there, professional and amateur alike. Canuck
  14. (In the wise words of Ruffio,) Bang-a-rang! I just sent off my e-mail to MSP before reading this, so perhaps we'll hear more for DF students. It's good to know things are moving again, and that they didn't just scrap the waitlists. Glad to hear you're next in line for the CGS, and here's hoping you get it! I may be back with more information later. Love from West Toronto, Canuck
  15. Yeah. A bit of a slip. Perhaps that's the month that's on my mind. (And yah, RaaR, I see you lurking. I'm still waiting for this so-called 'almost sure-thing'.)
  16. I'd love her more if she had some info one of these fine days. But it is still early september after all.
  17. For anyone waiting to hear MSP's response to my friday e-mail, I don't tend to send it until 3pm, closer to the end of the day. Canuck
  18. I'm not waiting on a decline, I'm waiting on one acceptance, but I see your point. I know there are two Vanier winners in my subgroup, but I don't know exactly who they are.
  19. Just because I'm still slightly neurotic about this whole thing, I checked the Vanier list and found at least one (perhaps two) economics winners, and they're listed at Canadian universities, so unlike the earlier CGS list boondaggle, they most likely accepted the award and are holding it. That should mean I'm in (and perhaps SpaceJump is too, in his category) but they haven't budged that list yet. Terribly frustrating, to say the least, but nothing new. I think I'll move my e-mails up to friday afternoon, bi-weekly. (Also, Royksopp is excellent writing music, and not just for car insurance commericals)
  20. I remember being told by the Guru herself that the subcommittees are mixed. Who knows why they call them that. Anyhow, I'll keep up my contact bi-weekly, which means an e-mail on monday. With luck, one monday morning, we may be given a timeline for when things might get moving. Or hear that they never will. Either way, info is info. Canuck
  21. Another week, another wait. Classes start next week at UToronto. It's nice to have other things to worry about.
  22. Thanks, ChanEcon. I like your thinking. I'm not entirely sure, though, that the sub-committee I'm in is just econ. It's very possible that it's a mix. That said, there has to be something going on with the Vaniers, if nothing else. That is the hope I cling to. Canuck
  23. Maybe. I don't know what regular basis will be, or whether pestering them at all is really worth anything, since it seems that either they'll know, and pass the info on, or won't know anything whatsoever. I'm a little bit miffed that all I needed was either one vanier to accept or one of the other 34 winners to decline to get one, and that there seems to be no word on whether that has happened yet -especially because payments start soon (or have already started). You think they'd at least know unofficially, even if they can't say so officially, if either of those has happened. Canuck
  24. I have a good feeling this game is going to continue for a while. It'd be strange to not have any waitlists move. But of course, stranger things have happened in this world. EDIT: Phalene and SpaceJump, are you two still harassing them? Are they giving up anything?
  25. I'm not so much worried as I am just loathing the acceptance/payment/returning-current-fellowship process. It'd be a serious bunch of hoops to jump through. Especially when all I'm doing is RETURNING MONEY. Canuck
