2020 Decisions
SomethingWicked replied to The Hoosier Oxonian's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
After much deliberation, I have decided to accept UNM's offer! Albuquerque, here we come! Best of luck to everyone else who is still considering their options, and a BIG congrats to everyone who has already made their decision! -
Campus Visits
SomethingWicked replied to allplaideverything's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
Welp, my UNM visit just got canceled. Anyone from New Mexico know anything about the Albuquerque area? It's going to be difficult to compare these offers when I get to see Duquesne first-hand, but not UNM. Talk about poor timing. I'm struggling to remain optimistic in light of all this madness. -

Well then that works perfectly since I have a special place in my heart for medievalists, myself. My best friend is an aspiring Medieval Lit scholar Nerds of the world unite! -

Just heard back from the UPenn graduate admin. She said that final meetings are being held now and that decisions should be out in the "next week or so." Pretty vague, but it doesn't look like we should expect to hear from Penn today! -

Happy to be of service! I had a rare moment where my anxiety wasn't paying attention, so I just hit send and closed my email tab ? -

Finally cracked and sent an email to the graduate coordinator at UPenn asking if there was any update on when decisions will be released. Will report back if I hear from them! -

I wouldn't lose hope just yet! Mine came in like 3 minutes ago, which looks a little later than the other ones that already went out. Good luck! -

Soooo do we expect UPenn to be notifying this week? Last year it was around the 20th, I think. I mean, I don't actually think I'd be accepted there, but it'd be nice to know at least. -

Congratulations, you must be so excited to have all of your decisions in! You now have me contemplating sending Purdue an email as well. -

I get that. I thought that getting an acceptance (finally) would take the edge off, but not knowing on the rest of my programs is killing me. Side note: I'm utterly convinced that waitlists are specifically organized to raise the blood pressure of poor, unsuspecting grad students. It looks as though you have some good options though, so congrats on your acceptances! But I understand the frustration with Purdue, I'm waiting on them myself with their "rolling admissions," whatever thats supposed to mean haha Best of luck on your thesis! -

YES. I am struggling soooo hard with my thesis right now. Every time I sit down to write, my mind feels like it's bouncing and everything I write feels like garbage. Solidarity, I feel you. -

Just waitlisted at Carnegie Mellon! This is my first choice school. I am bawling my eyes out at the chance to attend. -
2020 Applicants

I didn't apply there, but I applied to a few other that sent out earlier notifications last year (I'm looking at you Purdue and Carnegie Mellon) that have yet to sent anything out yet, to my knowledge. I'm trying to hold off on calling, but honestly, if it is going to cause you stress, the worst thing they can say is that applications are still under review. I wouldn't think that a program would throw anyone out of their app pool over a phone call. That being said, this is my first application cycle, so maybe others have a different opinion. -

I'm in the same boat; still no answers from Madison on my end. I've heard talk that they sometimes send out their acceptances/waitlists/rejections in waves, but I'm not sure if that is the case or not. -

I figured they were doing things in waves. I guess I'm still trying to harbor hope that if they haven't rejected me yet, then maybe there is a chance for admission! Thank you for the time update though! -

I saw that Wisconsin has started sending some rejections, is anyone else still waiting to hear anything from them? So far it's been totally silent on my end. -

You are definitely not alone in this! I have taken to placing my phone out of reach at night to prevent myself from constantly checking my email. I have also been (attempting) to restrict myself to checking only three times a day (morning, lunch, and before bed), though some days are more successful than others. I do highly recommend a nice cup of tea before bed for relaxing vibes! Honey and chamomile is a personal favorite of mine -

I'm glad I'm not the only one dreaming about them. Last week I dreamed that a school wanted to fly me up to talk about my application, then they sat me down and took turns roasting my app materials before sending me home. Good times haha
