  1. Hey everyone After looking for a Facebook group for the UWindsor MSWwp Regular Track 32-month Peel location (Class of 2023) for a few months with no success, I created one here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/978891365881308/ If the link doesn't work, you can search for 'UWindsor MSWwp 32 month - Class of 2023 (Peel location)' and you should be able to find it. Looking forward to connecting with you on there!
  2. Thank you I submitted my application in the first week of November and I received an offer the next week, which I was not expecting! I definitely lend the speed of response to the date that I applied - since applications open up in September and I think are due in May of the following year, my application was submitted relatively early. On UWindsor's website, they write: "This program practices "rolling admissions". We process complete applications as we receive them, and offers are extended on a first-come, first-serve basis until classes are full. We recommend applying early to avoid disappointment." Essentially... apply as early as possible for the best chance! ? Good luck, rooting for you!
  3. Hey, thank you! I have a BA in Psychology and an SSW diploma, with 2.5 years of paid work experience in a social service setting. I also started volunteering at three places: a nonprofit health agency, a crisis text line, and an agency focusing on people experiencing homelessness. Another way to supplement your application is with professional development and training - some great free online courses that you can take can be found on OCASI: learnatwork.ca and CAMH: https://moodle8.camhx.ca/moodle/. I did all of the above because I was really worried about my chances since my GPA isn't super strong and I had already gotten rejected from York and U of T when I applied while completing my SSW diploma a few years ago, so I wanted to do as much as I possibly could this time around. Advice: start getting in contact with your references now and stay on top of communications so that they can give you a really solid reference when it's time! Take as many online courses/certifications as you can! Try to volunteer if you aren't already Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions, happy to chat.
  4. Hey everyone! I'll be starting at UWindsor for their MSW WP regular track program this September. Anyone else?
  5. Hey! I know that the Laurier online MSW (for the 2 year program, not sure about the 1 year advanced standing program) has about 400 applications and accepts 40! I'd imagine intake is similar for the advanced standing program. Best of luck, I believe this is your year!
  6. Hi all! I just submitted my application to Laurier for the May 2020 start, also submitting an application for UWindsor. I'm very concerned about my odds with Laurier but figured I would try anyway. I have experience getting rejected (lol) from UofT and York when I was finishing my SSW diploma (major lack of practical human service experience) so this time I'm hoping for success! I have two years of paid experience in social services, a BA in Psychology and an accelerated diploma in Social Service Work, with previous placements as an Educational Assistant and a Settlement/Employment Counsellor. I'm also volunteering in a related social service-oriented agency and hoping to begin the process of volunteering on a crisis text line as well! (Anyone else feel like applying for volunteer opportunities is maybe worse than applying for jobs? Gah!) Looking forward to keeping up with this forum and wish you all the best in your applications! ?
  7. No problem! No sadly, I didn't get a chance to ask that! So many questions, so little time ? Which program were you accepted to? Congratulations!!
  8. For anyone interested - I just spoke to an Admissions Advisor at Laurier in regards to the 2 year online part-time MSW program, she let me know that about 40 applicants are accepted with over 400 applications received! Makes me nervous but I guess all we can do is try and see! ? I also asked whether an academic reference can include a college professor as opposed to a university prof, and she said it was no problem. Best of luck to everyone, let me know if you want to commiserate about the application process hahaha!
  9. Thank you so much! Good luck to you too, hopefully you hear back soon!
  10. Hi all! I'm applying to the online 2-year MSW program at Laurier and the Personal Statement form is tripping me up a bit... I'm wondering if the format is meant to be that of an essay with a 'thesis' statement and flow as such, or if we are really just meant to answer all questions separate from one another? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
