  1. In addition to those already mentioned, and depending on the specific interests of your friend, I would also recommend looking at University of Memphis, NYU (though not traditionally known as a continental school, they have some strong faculty members who are devoted to continental work), and Berkeley (the same).
  2. Check out Duke's Literature program. It was my top choice as somebody wanting to do a grad program in Comparative Literature but wasn't quite up to most programs' language requirements (you do still need proficiency in two languages other than English-- one upon admission with a clear plan for acquisition of a second during your studies. Better than two upon admission with plans for a third for a lot of comp lit programs).
