Dear NYU, You should let me in today. Toodles, Convex
-
Sounds much colder.

Near SoCal?

I applied to quite a few as you can see, but I functionally applied to about 8 because all of the places where my wife didn't get into the law school are already off the list. My GRE is also pretty sub-standard, and my UGPA is not that good (although my graduate GPA is much better). You can look at my list and see how that might be a problem, but I'm hoping my research experience (pretty extensive) will lead at least one decent adcom to accidentally admit me. If I get rejected everywhere else but manage to get off of this UIUC waitlist, I'll consider it a victory (though I would prefer a much more decisive victory). (edit: spelling)

We probably over-value information about when a school notified last year. The composition of the admissions committee may be entirely different this year than last.
-
By the way plisar, I noticed that your list of schools is alphabetized. OCD?
-
You should know from UNC at that point at least. You can swing that commute.

Dear poster who left the question about UVA on the results board, This is the appropriate place to ask that question. Please get a screen name and post here. Thanks, Convex

Breaking: Sources say programs scaling down this year
convex replied to AllFiredUp's topic in Political Science Forum
The article doesnt' deny that they lost 1/4 of their endowment, it just says they spread out spending over several years so that spending cuts are minimal. This is probably true, since they're hiring. -
It will help some. Check this out: http://gking.harvard.edu/files/PS93.pdf

I am especially rooting for all of you that are already in at Illinois to get in everywhere else you applied, so that I might get off of this waitlist.
-
You might actually have better luck on the Government Affairs board.
-
Well, since it's Yale, they probably just randomized you guys into treatment and control groups, so don't worry about it.

Also, apparently Stanford likes calling people on Saturday, or at least did last year.

Well, the weather has been nice in Southern California all week, but it's raining today and will all weekend. I say that to say this: it's possible that the UCLA and UCSD faculty have been at the beach all week, and will now have to come in and have an adcom meeting.
-
Yeah, 6 people reported getting in to Caltech. They're done. At best there's a waitlist.
-
Caltech is shooting for an entering class of 6-8 students anyway, and they probably have really high yield since they offer $28K fellowships, so I'm guessing they make offers to about 12 people. 4 or 5 people posted on the board last night that they were admitted to Caltech.
-
I'm relatively sure Caltech is done.
-
Looks like some people have heard back from Caltech (Social Science). Any of you?
-
Who heard from FSU? Congrats!
-
Don't get me started on those guys.
-
That's a little premature though. UCLA/UCB/Stanford faculty may not have even had lunch yet.
-
Yeah, adcoms don't want to be bothered, and therefore have an incentive to let students think that decisions come in March. The UCLA status checker, for example, says: Which we know is not true of UCLA.
-
Keep in mind, however, that we're deciding what their normal cycle is based on 1 or 2 previous time points.
