  1. I already turned in my resignation for teaching for next year so I feel like I have to start grad school in the fall. I'm going to hate if I have to do it online but realllllly hoping that won't happen. Ugh this stresses me out like you wouldn't even believe. I'm pretty sure I'd go crazy if I was still stuck in my house doing things online in the fall

  2. I considered both too! If I had gone into social work, I wouldn't have needed an extra year of school to get my second bachelor's in communication disorders. I also feel like social work is very flexible, and there is a lot you can do as a social worker! Ultimately I decided to go into speech pathology, mainly for the higher salary. I teach now and didn't want to go to grad school for two years to make a lower salary than I make teaching!  I also felt like I didn't have the super caring, calm, empathetic demeanor that good social workers have and so ultimately wouldn't be good in the field. There are pros and cons to both though. Just think about what you really want to do more!

I was accepted but haven't been able to find any info on the program or speak to any current or past students. None of the faculty have responded to my emails either. It's been really frustrating and I'm feeling like I may just have to write it off given the deadline to commit is in a week. :(  If anyone would be willing to message me to chat about it I would love that!!!

Oh damn, that sucks. I went to the virtual office hours for grad school questions a couple weeks ago and asked them about the decision deadline because the acceptance didn't say, and they told me they'd delayed it till June 1st because of the whole coronavirus situation. However that wasn't the department so I'd definitely make sure if you plan to wait before accepting. SF State also weirdly didn't charge a deposit or anything for accepting so Idk how ethical it is but I guess you could always just accept and cancel later...

Message me if you want to talk more! I know little about the program but I do live in SF!

Got the acceptance at 4 in the morning! So they should be coming out soon! Good luck to everyone! Don't know if I will be accepting here though yet.

Congrats! I got mine yesterday. It's probably my top choice but I'm not accepting it just yet either. Do you know if the date we have to accept by is April 15th for them? Their emails don't mention it. Also, should we start sending them official copies of our transcripts and GRE scores?

Yeah, I was expecting more thought provoking questions from CSULB. Instead, they were very dry and bland. The only thing that appealed to me was their grant and how affordable the program is overall. I also like how we would have summers off.

And yes, I received that email, too! I'm assuming it's their way of letting us know that we have not been forgotten.

I also thought CSULB was just rude. At least when I was there in the morning, the building where the interviews were held wasn't even unlocked. People were in tears because they were freaking out and couldn't get in etc and CSULB was so unapologetic and only rudely replied that the doors were locked because it was a Saturday. It was definitely the most unorganized interview I've been to! And I actually didn't like that the program is longer than all the others, even though it does mean summers off.

I haven't heard anything back from SFSU. I saw the same post as you, still anxiously waiting. I also had an interview with CSULB on 3/7, but no word from them, either.

I was super unimpressed with CSULB! I went to their interview too. What did you think of them??

And I got this from SF State just today:

"Your graduate admission application has been forwarded to your intended graduate program for final review.  You have met university eligibility requirements for graduate admission.

You may continue to check your SF State Admission Status online at the following website: http://www.sfsu.edu/admit/"

I don't know what it means and can't find anything when I go to the link either.

  7. Okay, I'm not exactly in this situation yet, but I am stressed beyond belief about where I'm going to get in and go next year.

I was accepted to one school already, but it's reallllllly not my first choice. I have an interview at one of my top choices on Monday. So I was just wondering, what if I get waitlisted at a top choice school? I feel like I'd have to commit to a school that actually accepted me by April 15th, but then what if I get accepted off the waitlist in May or something? How bad would it be to revoke my acceptance? Is that common?? Aside from feeling like a huge jerk and possibly losing a deposit, are there any consequences to doing that?

    I'm just so stressed out.

Are you a CA resident? I don't believe that I had to fill that out but I'm born and raised in CA so now I'm wondering if I should reach out to them haha. I was going to apply to East Bay but didn't like the area too much!

Yes!! But the form is ridiculous. It wants to know your CA driver's license number, the day you last voted in California, your last 3 California addresses, and on and on and on. I've lived in CA my whole life but was struggling with filling it out!

I also got the interview to SF state and am also waiting to hear from CSU LA. I think LA's interview is end of feb/beginning of march is what the department chair told me. Good luck! Are you applying to any other CA schools?

I applied to CSU Long Beach but I don't have high hopes after learning their admission rate is like 8%. I haven't even bothered mailing in the super complicated residency form they asked for from me. I also applied to CSU East Bay, but it's not a top choice.

  10. I basically want to die because I no-showed to my UVA interview by accident. I got invited to interview at Northeastern and SF State. Waiting to hear from Cal State LA and James Madison University...has anyone heard from either of those yet?

I also got in to one program early admission, and offered a partial tuition waiver and work hours. It's a super small town though so still waiting to see where else I get in.
