For all of you bitting your nails off waiting to hear back from Stanford - I emailed them and this is what they just (one min ago) said :
Dear .___,
In the coming week, the committees will start to contact those applicants who have been selected for an interview. The selected applicants will be invited to interview, at our expense, arriving on Wednesday, March 4 and departing on Sunday, March 8, 2020. This is our only interview session. Highly qualified applicants residing in other countries and for whom a visit would not be possible may be selected for a telephone interview.
In general, if an applicant has not heard about a possible invitation by late January, it is unlikely that he or she will be invited to Stanford or admitted. Applicants who are not selected for an interview will receive a letter which states that no further action will be taken on their application by the Committee on Graduate Admissions and Policy.

I thought I'd provide a little balance against the dude getting interviews at every school he / she applied to. You know, for those of us with anxiety issues.
I applied to 12 and am currently 2 for 8.
Interviews at Upenn and Michigan.
No interviews at Harvard, UCSF (rejected), Northwestern (but not rejected?), Johns Hopkins, Columbia, Berkeley (my number 2 RIP )
Waiting on WashU, UCSD, Stanford (lol), and Yale.

@Aplysia I received an invitation yesterday as well! I was worried that it was a mistake since it seems so soon, but I feel reassured now lol
I definitely was not expecting this, so I'm very excited! I now also have a bit more hope for my 10 other applications ☺️

Good luck on the app cycle everyone!! It really is a great time to meet awesome scientists and get excited about the future of neuroscience current G1 at UPenn in NGG if anyone has any questions (about Penn or applying to PhD programs more broadly) -- I received my interview invite December 7th, so it is possible they'll go out soon, but interviews aren't until the beginning of January so they may push it back this year.
