Did anyone else from the first interview batch at Columbia get an email today? I got an email about them being impressed with my application and interviews, but will be waiting till after the 2nd round of interviews to make formals offers. They also asked whether I’m planning on accepting any other positions before then.

Seems like you got invites from some of the top schools despite being international! Congrats From what I know, NYU did send out invites (and it’s usually all in one go), but there’s a chance they send a few if people don’t accept the invites (this is what I was told).

Hey! So I literally went to websites of universities I wanted to RA at, picked out labs I was interested in, read their latest papers and then emailed the PI directly (whether or not the website said they were hiring). I did this for like 10/15 labs at a few different institutions! The good thing is that universities can get you here on a J1 visa (research scholar) which is much easier than a H1B visa, and if the PI wants you, the HR team will do all the paperwork! I know quite a few other RAs that are international. Some PIs are really nice and realize that they have the power to give people who don’t otherwise have opportunities in their home country a chance in the US, and they want to see that you’re genuinely interested to learn and work more than how qualified you are. To be really specific here, My RA position pays $40,000 a year.. and I live pretty comfortably in New York with it. It also covers medical insurance. So i would definitely try to do this if I were you! Feel free to DM me if you have more questions

Someone at NYU told me that they think invites were already sent out.. so maybe people just didn’t really post it on the results page

No idea! But I’m almost positive there’ll be a wave of interviews sent out in early January

Ah, I see! I don’t know much about the Psych programs, but if they haven’t sent out invites yet then don’t worry yet!

Really confused about NYU too. I do know that office of admissions is closed till Jan 4th though.

Yeah! International student, BA from a liberal arts school in the US (3.65 gpa) masters in cog neuro from UCL (3.4), 2.5 years research assistant experience at NYU, 1 poster at SFN, no pubs (2 in prep).

Just got an invite from Columbia too! Guess they weren’t done sending em out!

Ah okay. I tech here and they just sent out an email to the department saying that they’ve made their selection. 55 interviews out of 566. I just wasn’t sure if it was sent out yet or not

I know a few people with zero pubs or more than a year of neuro experience that got into Columbia and other few best schools. Go figure

A friend told me he received an interview on Christmas Eve once hah. Also, a lot of programs have sent invites after Christmas and before Jan in the past.
