  1. Hello everyone! I've received my official acceptance to UVIC. Stats again for anyone curious: ~11,000 hours of paid/volunteer social work experience 4.0 GPA in my BSW, also hold a Bachelor of Arts, Criminology 87% over last twenty courses I will be declining as I've already accepted a May start for Laurier. I was also accepted to Waterloo, so if anyone has any questions around my personal statement or experience please feel free to ask! I found these forums very helpful when I was applying!
  2. Yes good luck! It'll just be 12 courses plus practicum for you. I loved UVIC, and would continue there for my masters, but I want to be able to do independent counselling so went with a school that has clinical coursework.
  3. Hi! Yes the only requirement is that you live in Canada - there were some exceptions during COVID for international students but I'm not sure about that now. We had lots of people from Ontario, Alberta and Newfoundland. The tricky part for them is that some schools have agreements with health authorities in their home province so it's tough for them to get those health-based practicums sometimes. Tuition was about 11k, I ended up paying only half out of pocket because UVIC is generous with scholarships. I also have my own health coverage so I opted out of that cost. I think that's an extra $360.
  4. Also, for everyone waiting on UVIC acceptance, I logged in today and it says "Recommended by Department". I have not received an official acceptance email yet.
  5. Hi! I was in the same boat as you - I had a degree in Crim and wanted to jump straight into a master's program but faced the same barriers. I decided to complete the BSW at UVIC. It is entirely online and if you have a previous degree it's only 12 courses and 2 practicums. Because I already had experience in the field, I did the first practicum via PLA. I finished the program in four semesters and I've accepted an advanced standing position with Laurier. I worked full time and also volunteered on the side while taking 4 courses. The workload was not bad at all - most courses were two papers and weekly discussion posts. All in all my journey will take 9 semesters, so about three years from BSW to ending the MSW. However, if I had chosen UVIC instead of Laurier, it would only be 7 semesters because UVIC only requires 6 courses plus a practicum for their MSW program.
  6. Hello everyone! I've been accepted to Waterloo! Stats again for anyone curious: ~11,000 hours of paid/volunteer social work experience 4.0 GPA in my BSW, also hold a Bachelor of Arts, Criminology 87% over last twenty courses I will be declining as I've already accepted a May start for Laurier.
  7. Hello everyone! I applied to the Laurier May 2022 cohort and I just received my acceptance. Stats for those interested: ~11,000 hours of paid/volunteer social work experience 4.0 GPA in my BSW, also hold a Bachelor of Arts, Criminology 87% over last twenty courses My last name also starts with C. I had until February 4th to accept my offer. Good luck to everyone!
  8. Hi there! I was just wondering if you or any of your classmates went on to do clinical social work as a graduate from UVIC. I’m trying to decide which programs to apply to and I’m limiting myself to online ones....it looks like Dal does clinical as does Laurier but I like UVIC as a school...
