  1. Yeehaw! Lock and load, boys and girls, we're going in hot. Time for a weekend of trying to think about ANYTHING else.
  2. ... At least not until "The Device" is completed.
  3. Yes, I'll permit this addition to the Book of Rage.
  4. Somehow, I suspect that would only make them hold onto the letters even longer. Never give a child what they want when they're having a tantrum, you know? "You'll get your letters when you learn to wait your turn."
  5. Seriously. Tensions are running high, but it's out of our hands now and all we can do is wait for the letters to arrive. Trying to guess what SSHRC does or doesn't want isn't going to change what we've already put in our applications. Let's focus on productive things. You know, like raging at SSHRC for not mailing the letters NOW NOW NOW. RAAAGH! CAPS LOCK!
  6. Given how many applications they have to go through, I'm really not sure how much time they have to compare current applications against old ones.
  7. Nope, just more collective freaking out. It's going to be a long couple of weeks.
  8. Try not to internalize it. None of us will know anything until the results are released, and we're all ripe to freak out. You put in your best, and it's out of your hands, now. Convincing yourself that it was futile isn't going to make anything better. Keep breathing, everyone. Lord knows I'm trying to.
  9. Still in progress? Sigh. So frustrating. Just put us out of our collective misery, SSHRC! I beg of you!
  10. That makes two of us, FQRSC wait list buddy.
  11. All of your logic, be silenced! For ye now dwelleth in the pits of bureaucracy, and Lo, no light of reason shall penetrate this chasm.
  12. FQRSC tops out at $20k per year for up to three years. So, it'll always be less lucrative than the $20k SSHRC, but still enough to live all right in Montreal.
  13. Thanks. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. The numbers in my FQRSC category were really small - 12 applicants, 3 grants offered, and I'm 1st on the waiting list with a score of 17.4/20. I really hope something will work out - it'll suck to sit out a year on account of not getting funding.
  14. SSHRC is typically released a couple of weeks later, but there is no set relationship between the two.
  15. FQRSC Doctoral results are out. I made the waiting list in my category. Sigh.
  16. Yeah, it's kind of frustrating that they're releasing them on different days. I know a couple of days more of waiting after half a year isn't outrageous, but nerves are running high and WE JUST WANT TO FRIKKIN' KNOW, OKAY!? OKAY!? Ahem..... sorry...
  17. Thanks for the heads up. I applied for a Doctoral FQRSC grant, too, so hopefully they'll release those soon.
  18. But when, specifically, in May? The 2nd? The 4th, but only after 2:51PM? Are they waiting for a specific star formation to be seen before knowing that it is the Right Time to release the results? I'mma email them every three hours to ask.
  19. As of last Friday (the 13th... ooooooo.....), the grad studies office in my department has heard nothing regarding when either the Doctoral or Master's results will be released. Hopefully, the process won't drag on until mid-May like past years, but I'm not optimistic. Prove me wrong, SSHRC! Prove me wrong!
  20. It begiiiiiiiiiiiins! (Sorry, just having a bit of fun. And, no, I haven't called.)
  21. From my experience two years ago, it was still several weeks between when my application was removed from the online system and when I received my letter (May 15). Regarding your decision about which school to attend - Unfortunately, there's not a lot of hope that the results will be out before the traditional April 15 accept/reject deadline. For what it's worth, I'm in the same boat at the doctoral level. Good luck, though. I know it's frustrating, but such is the way of SSHRC.
  22. Don't worry, the application being removed from their online system is normal. If you received confirmation that your application was received, they're not going to lose you.
  23. I invested several hundred hours in both Master's (successful) and Doctoral (???) applications. I don't have specific numbers, but.... they're not low. Even at the Master's level, though, I remember that the "payout" was equivalent to a pretty good hourly wage for how long I worked on it. There may be a lot of luck involved, but it's still quite common for rushed or poor quality applications to get killed at the school's internal review session(s) - at least, if you apply through an institution - so I try to hedge my bets. Writing the applications also had the secondary benefit of helping me narrow in on what research I actually wanted to pursue and frame it in a semi-easily digestible format for people outside of my discipline.
  24. The budget was released on March 29, which was later than previous years, and both SSHRC and NSERC received a budget cut. Whether that has any impact on this years grant numbers, no one knows. What is known is that NSERC did not release their results until after the budget (read: later than they usually do). People are now beginning to receive them en mass, though. Since SSHRC results are always released later than NSERC, it's unclear as to whether there will be any extra delay because of the budget. Last year, however, the first SSHRC results were reported on the forum on April 26, so I'd be surprised if they were out beforehand. Which is cool, because nobody is waiting on them, or anything.
