With the delayed federal budget announcement this year, I'd suggest not counting on receiving a response from SSHRC any time in the next few weeks. The NSERC people are dealing with this delay, already. Which is a real pain in the ass, because for some people (hey, I'm some people!), it's SSHRC's decision that determines whether or not they can afford (further) grad studies, but the accept/reject deadline for schools is April 15 and arrrrrrrghblhhjrhdn.......

This is a thread for those of us who have applied for funding through the FQRSC, and any updates that we may receive about our applications. There hasn't seemed to be much discussion of this grant on Gradcafe in the past, but maybe it'll prove useful for someone. In the mean time, all I can say is that the agency hasn't told me anything since I got confirmation of application, but I've been told by others at my school that results usually come out at the end of April. Anyone heard different?

Indeed, I am. I can't promise in-depth responses for the next couple of weeks, as my Master's thesis is being performed quite soon and I'm spending all of my time working on the electronic sound files for it. That said, feel free to get in touch and we can go from there.

I can say that McGill's composition admission committee won't be meeting until later this week or early next, for those who may have applied there. Congrats to those of you who've already been admitted! Purpledinosaur, given your profile and the schools in your sig, I think that I know you (cue the stalker music). If the phrase "mirror, mirror on my floor" has a special significance for you, I think that'll settle it.

Bloody great... VAMPIRE composers. Guess I have to change my gimmick, now.

One is capable of great things.... When one's deadline has already been twice extended and you fear for your future career prospects. *adjusts collar* Is it hot in here, or is it just me?
-
Congrats to all who got good news today! I had time for one celebratory beer - at home - before getting back to work. Hopefully a better celebration will happen in the next few days once this orchestra piece is done. It was sort of anticlimactic to get the news after all this waiting, but a huge relief nonetheless.

Yeah, some Dieu du Ciel would really hit the spot right now, especially in this heat... But I have to keep working. Such is life. It may not be official yet, but congratulations!
-
Finally! I got my letter in Montreal - successful for the Masters award! Yeah, boy! What's your status, ALau? It has to arrive to you soon.

I'm actually kind of laughing about it now. I sort of picture a round table in a dark room, shadowy figures filing in quietly. "Shall we finally release the results for the Masters scholarships?" "Yes, I believe we shall..." "Very well. How should I go about preparing the..." "-BUT!... We will do this on the Friday before the May long weekend! And we will tell people the day before, so that they might inundate their department chairs and coordinators, only to be met by the isolation of unanswered phone lines and the harsh sting of out-of-the-office auto responses to the messages they have so lovingly crafted, spirits brimming with the hope that our silence has finally cracked." "But, sir, is that not rather..." "SILENCE. Do you not remember the purpose of our gathering?" "..." "So I thought. And one more thing... We will not actually release the results for two more weeks. This meeting is adjourned." The camera leaves the room backwards, revealing a piece of paper taped to the door reading "Grad student torment committee meeting today. Refreshments following." House lights up, crowd leaves theatre. Trash... everywhere.

Oh nooooooo, my department co-ordinator is away today. I know I'm being picky, and that ANY results are better than none, but to release the results just before a long weekend, when a lot of the people who can disseminate the information are taking a day off, is sort of bad timing on their part. Now it'll be Tuesday before we get even a hint of the results... blugh...
-
No, I meant directly to schools, like the did with the Doctoral results.
-
Thanks for the update! Hopefully they'll release the results electronically, too, so we won't have to wait for the mail. I've had too many letters get lost or stolen lately.
-
I'm the one who originally provided the "end of the month" quote, and have heard nothing new since then. Someone else has heard that the results would be released in the middle of the month, too, so hopefully that will be the case. At this point, all we can do is wait. Thankfully, we've had lots of practice.
-
Okay, this is getting really frustrating. McGill Awards has reiterated that Masters results will be out by the end of the month. Which sort of contradicts what other posters in the thread have experienced.
-
There's no harm in asking your school. Don't count on hearing anything just yet, though, since McGill still doesn't seem to have the results for the Masters competition.
-
School offices are now open for the day... Deep breath. Update: McGill music grad co-ordinator hasn't heard anything, but she's emailed Awards to see what they know.
-
Thanks for the very important news! I didn't hear anything today from my department or awards, so now I'm horribly paranoid.
-
No one here has received their result. Word from the McGill fellowships officer is that they'll be released around "the end of the month." Another forum member emailed SSHRC to confirm whether this is true, but has not yet heard back from them. That's about all we know at the moment.
-
Congrats! What's your area of musicological study?
-
No letter today. Any response to your email yet? I really wish that SSHRC would release the results all at once. I know that the stakes are much higher for doctoral awards, but whether or not I have a Masters scholarship makes a huge difference in my summer plans, so not knowing is really starting to aggravate me. All the same, huge congrats to those of you who've been successful!
-
Are you planning on doing that tonight? I had planned on emailing them, too, but I'd rather not overload them with the same question.
-
As I mentioned a few pages back, McGill's fellowships officer has told me that the Masters results are currently expected "by the end of the month."
-
I'm not sure that this has any impact on you, but the McGill fellowships officer has told me that the Master's results should be out "by the end of the month." This is completely absurd.
