Just got my rejection for May! Not too surprised as I’m only 23 still sucks but oh well , good luck everyone else
-
I believe they send out acceptances over a couple days, then wait list and somewhere in between rejections
-
If only they got notified how often we check this forum and LORIS ?
-
Non-bsw!
-
I know it’s becoming unhealthy LOL
-
I just emailed Laurier about this May and she said they are slightly behind schedule.. but they are still aiming for January
-
I have applied to both the May 2021 online and sept 2021 in person and both of mine changed to this as well! So I’m not sure it even means anything because the September one they don’t tell people until April
-
Volunteering counts as a professional reference because it was a “professional” setting. My old coworker used her volunteer coordinator as a reference and she got into the program
-
Both of those would count! They just don’t accept academic references, but both volunteer or work are okay!
-
Hi! Do either you mind sharing some of your experience? Total number of hours? Etc.
-
I did not make my personal statement personal at all.. ironic right lol, I did not look into what the schools goals/values are in terms of social work. I have a lot of personal stuff I went through that I never included because I never thought I should! But a lot of people told me this is very important so I just included some personal experience that brought me to the MSW.

Thank you! I learned that King’s is very focused on the academic part of things. 50% is your marks, 30% is your personal statement and 20% is your experience. They are very precise about the personal statement! I would suggest getting help from someone who works in the MSW program or went to it! Laurier I believe is more focused on your experience rather than grades!

I am currently applying to the 2 year online MSW at Laurier - May 2021. For fall 2021 I am applying to both the two year programs at Laurier and Kings. Right now I am at 6300 hours of relevant work/volunteer experience (Justice Worker, CMHA mental health worker, Hospital, Support Worker, Teaching Assistant, Board Member etc.). By the time I apply to sept 2021 I should have a couple hundred more. Average last 2 years is 82%. Did my undergrad through western majoring in Disability Studies, minoring in Psychology. I also have several certificates in different things such as BPD, behavioural analysis, developmental trauma, etc.) I applied last year to kings and Laurier, rejected from kings, wait listed at Laurier (still waiting for that). i learned my mistake was my personal statement which I made a lot of improvement on for this year! good luck everyone

Would you be able to share your GPA/experience you have?
-
My friend just received an email last week that her whole year next year will be online.
-
Western just announced that the whole next year is going to be online.. feeling that most schools may do this. Will anyone be deferring/planning to attend the next year instead because of this?
-
Has anyone moved from the Laurier wait list yet for the 2 year stream in person?
-
I just got an email that said 350 applied for 80 spots!
-
I swear every time this question is asked a different response is given from them! I was told 80 are accepted and roughly 400 applied.
-
Yes sorry waitlisted for the 2 year stream, in person, at Laurier!
-
Just got wait listed at Laurier. Really hoping for the best as its my only option left here!
-
I know that CMHA right now is looking for the supportive listening line! Everything got moved to at home so now would be a good time to join! And CMHA is very reputable as well

The options for online MSW programs are very limited. Laurier and UWaterloo I think may be the only ones that have online MSW, in Ontario at least (correct me if I'm wrong). When you graduate you are graduating with a Masters from either Laurier or UWaterloo.. both reputable schools, and your diploma paper will not say online. If you do Counselling Psychology through lets say Yorkville, the case may be different because this isn't a well known school. Although it is becoming more recognized now by employers, obviously its not in the list of top schools known around here. With that being said, many employers usually care more about you actually having the masters and extensive experience! But if you are just looking at lets say the online MSW through Laurier, the courses are the same as you would do in person! The only difference is they made it more accessible to working professionals (hence why it's so difficult to get in), you still complete placement at the end of the learning component.

What is your first an last initial if you don’t mind? I’m just curious if they are sending out alphabetically or no!

Sorry to hear about anyones Laurier rejection letters. Has anyone been accepted yet?
