  1. Hiya folks! Thought I'd start this thread on the off-chance that anyone else on here will be at NCSU's psychology visiting day in February. I'm super excited, but I'd love to get to know some people before we get there if at all possible - maybe it'll make us all a little less nervous So - how we feelin'?
  2. oh my god sameeeee. i'm extremely happy with my invite right now since it's my top choice, but it realllllly puts the pressure on! I'm trying to distract myself from the official rejections I'll probably get in the next couple weeks by over-preparing for visiting day ... if anyone has any tips on how to absolutely nail it let me know lol
  3. I don't have premium either but it always shows me the regions people who have viewed my posts are in!
  4. anyone else seeing an increase in profile/post views from the area of your grad schools on linkedin? i'm too exited to meet current grad students at my programs but i also am dying to know if i'm accepted already. like, don't toy with my emotions y'know? lol
  5. I applied to HDFS programs at Penn State, Colorado State, and Oregon State! From talking to the program director at OSU, he saw it as a more holistic focus than psychology. Feel free to pm me if you want, I've talked to people from these three programs at conferences!
  6. I'm definitely wearing mine down, I just don't like wearing it up and I have shorter hair so my my best other option would be a low ponytail (yikes). I'll probably straighten pieces that look too wavy in the morning and I'm definitely bringing a small brush with me in my bag. To look more professional you could always do something half-up or clip part of the front back with barrettes.
  7. I agree on this - I'm interviewing for developmental psychology programs and our interviews are traditionally more business casual/smart casual than clinical ones (at least at the programs I'm interviewing at from what current students have told me). I know Old Navy has some straight pants too that might look a little more formal for other concentrations' interviews
  8. I second the Old Navy recommendation. The Pixie ankle pants are stretchy and their Ponte-knit Blazers are as well. In my experience, blazers tend to look weirder on me because I have a larger bust, but I didn't hate the ones from Old Navy and I think they're only about $45.
  9. For people looking at blazers, Old Navy seems to have a couple that are more affordable. I found this one that might be a little more flattering if you don't like traditional ones (like me) - open front and slightly cropped. Also, for color: from talking with my POI, I think color is fine! Bright colors personally aren't my thing, so to be safe I would say go with colors you would see at a conference (in my experience, this is mainly jewel tones, but I've seen a lot more reds/burnt oranges/golden yellows recently). Main thing is make sure you're comfortable and professional, but let your personality show! You've all been selected because your application stands out in some way - don't be afraid to stand out as the amazing person you are at the interviews too! Best of luck to everyone! We're all gonna crush it!
  10. I have a dinner the first night of my interview session with the whole psych department and I was planning on wearing ankle length chinos and a nicer blouse with a sweater or blazer if I can find one I like. I'm actually driving 3 hours to this visiting day, so I wanted to be comfy in the car but also look nice enough for meeting the grad students when I get there and not have to change for dinner.
  11. I think this is a great idea! I'll be driving from near Charlotte to NC State Visiting Day in February. If anyone is interested in carpooling, pm me!
  12. Hi guys, just wondering - has anyone here heard anything from Penn State's HDFS program? Also, WUSTL official interview invites go out today/tomorrow I heard! Fingers crossed for everyone!
