  1. Honorable Mention! G/VG VG/VG E/E. For Life Sciences-Neuroscience. Reviewer one did not understand my technique at all which is baffling because it's a fairly well known technique. He asked me to clarify how I would control for something that is already controlled for within the technique sooo... But I am so stoked! I got HM for both Ford and GRFP. I am lucky enough to be in a lab with ample funding. For me this was about the fact that I had given up a fellowship at another "more science-y/slightly more prestigious program" to attend my current school for the vibes. I made the right decision 100%. I was hoping to get the award because it would have gotten rid of any regret I was holding on to. Oh well!
  2. Oh nice, I am in neuroscience too. 2nd year PhD student. I am not optimistic whatsoever about the GRFP, Offer or HM. I just got an Honorable Mention from the Ford Foundation, so my hopes for a GRFP HM are a little higher than 0%. I am going on spring vacation soon and I just want to get the results before then.
  3. Congratulations! Did you apply this season/Do you know where you're going yet?
  4. Sucks to refresh the forum and not have any updates. There's gotta be something to do while we pass the time. How's everyone's day going?
  5. I just got my results for pre-doctoral fellowship. I got an Honorable Mention!!!! I'm a second year grad student with no publications, and average undergrad grades(3.5). Plus while I do go to an Ivy, it isn't Stanford/MIT/Harvard/Columbia/Princeton/Yale, so I knew I wouldn't get the award. But I do a lot of academic outreach, especially geared towards minorities, that I figured I had a good shot at Honorable Mention. Still in shock that I actually got it!
  6. Can someone please explain to me what the GEM fellowship actually is? I am a second year PhD student at Brown University and I am thinking of applying but I can't even tell if I am eligible because of the wording. Brown is listed as one of the member universities. But currently my tuition/stipend is coming from my PI. Am I eligible even though I am now a second year? Would Brown start paying my tuition/stipend instead of my PI or would GEM pay? Where would I do the summer internship, at Brown? Also, is anyone having a hard time getting past the contract initials page of the application? such confusion :/
