  1. Hi all! On April 11th I got off the advanced standing wait list at U of T for my first stream choice and I’ve accepted this offer. I created an advanced standing (graduating 2024) FB group as right now it seems advanced standing are mixed in with regular track and there’s some confusion about placement discourse. https://m.facebook.com/groups/935199144391772/?ref=share&mibextid=ykz3hl
  2. Just sharing that my ACRON was updated with the official offer for U of T advanced standing. Hoping others get an update today/this week as well :).
  3. Thank you! I had the same thing happen with Waterloo reaching out regarding an appropriate transcript (so I feel like they would only do that if a student is either going to be accepted or waitlisted). Fingers crossed for you to hear back asap :).
  4. Got accepted to Waterloo's 1-year advanced standing program! I still haven't received an email confirmation I just found out through checking quest. Good luck to everyone else who applied to Waterloo :).
  5. Thank you :). Will do! It has not been updated yet. Also don't be alarmed for those not receiving calls yet from U of T, the Human Service Management/Leadership stream is by far the smallest stream (based on U of T's faculty list for MSW specialization). Not sure if they have the capacity to call each student. If anyone else got into this stream and is reading this, I'd be interested to know :).
  6. Thank you! For my professional experience, I did my undergrad in health studies and a certificate program in community engagement, leadership and development, will be finishing my HBSW in June. I've worked in clinical research for the past 5 years. Currently working pt as an RA and a program leader for youth spaces. I have my SOCRA CCRP designation in research. Volunteer wise, 4 years at Sick Kids throughout my undergrad in research and child life, ECEA, and treasure for a community garden committee. More recently, volunteer notetaker, hospice, and started a social work club. Yes, exciting that the ball is rolling and I wish everyone the best with their applications!!
  7. Made a FB group for the FIFSW MSW at U of T for folks to join as they hear back about acceptances :). https://www.facebook.com/groups/953216012504785/?ref=share&mibextid=ykz3hlhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/953216012504785/?ref=share&mibextid=ykz3hl
  8. Just got a call from U of T! Accepted into the 1-year advanced standing program! I'll be crying all day! My portal has not been updated yet in SGS. I got a call from Michael Shier into the Human Services Management and Leadership stream. I applied through the Black student application. I'm not sure if what stream you applied to makes a difference if they call or not. My Last name starts with an F. Good luck to all! Ps. Would love to get a FB group going once folks here back!
  9. Got accepted to Orillia! I’m beyond excited!!! I’d love to join a FB group and can’t wait to meet you all in person in a few months! To anyone who reads this and did not yet get accepted, got rejected, or got waitlisted, don’t loose hope, keep chasing your dreams and if you feel this is your passion, don’t give up! (coming from someone who was rejected from a MSW in 2020)
  10. lol, I was waiting until April 1st to make another post... WE'VE ARRIVED TO THE MONTH WHERE WE GET OUR RESPONSES. I'll be honest, I tried not to get my hopes up BUT THEY'RE UP and I will very much be crushed if I don't get accepted (or at least wait listed). At the same time, I'm appreciating the fact that it's a competitive program. I'll be out of country from the 3rd to 10th so I'm thinking to not check until I get back... in the case I don't get in, I don't want to put a damper on the trip. Fingers crossed for acceptances for all on this platform
  11. I can relate to the "ready to burst" statement. The waiting game is difficult. I only applied to the Orillia campus and I would be commuting from Ajax (1.5 hour drive LOL). The struggle will be real but THANKFULLY the placement aspect can be done in our home area. I feel for everyone who needs to find accommodations so last minute, likewise not an easy situation. My fingers are crossed that we all hear back by April 3rd and that there's only 2 more weeks of this dreadful uneasiness.
  12. Nice! Taking a year off sounds like such a great idea. If I could go back, I’d do it between 18-24 (I’m 28 so that ship has sailed lol) MPH or MSW both sound like great choices! Completing the HBSW would probably provide some clarity on next best steps you wish to take. I only applied to the Orillia campus.
  13. I'm getting pretty anxious to hear back as well! My status has not changed yet (still "applied"). On past threads I've seen that the last week of March was the earliest people started hearing back 5 or 6 weeks has never felt so far away lol. If accepted into this HBSW, is anyone planning to apply straight for a 1 year MSW in December? I work in clinical paediatric research right now and would love to continue in a clinical setting so I think an MSW will be most helpful with that goal. I applied to a MSW at U of T and Laurier for a 2020 start date but was rejected from both (U of T had almost 700 applicants and only 130 spots, i.e 18% acceptance rate, I didn't realize until then how competitive a MSW can be). I've done some volunteering since then and I'm finishing up a community engagement leadership and development certificate at Ryerson (which I have really enjoyed and recommend for anyone wishing to expand their skills/courses). My fingers are crossed for this year! I got accepted into another program for teaching but this is my first choice. Wishing everyone the best during the waiting game!! :).
  14. Hi all, I didn't see a thread started on this topic yet! I wanted to open up a space for those who applied to a Bachelor of Education for becoming a teacher. I applied to Lakehead University (Orillia campus-accepted) and Ontario Tech (waitlisted) both for Junior/primary. I also applied for an HBSW which is TBD. Best wishes to everyone who is starting to hear back from schools today! If you've applied to teaching, is this your first year?
  15. Hey all, out of curiosity (and this is the definition of overthinking) but when we were asked to write “2 pages” for each answer, did you take this as 2 pages double spaced (500 words) or 2 pages single spaced (1000 words). Best wishes to everyone still writing their exam! Certainly a weight off now that it’s over. The waiting game begins.
  16. Just got my rejection letter to the part time MSW online program at Laurier. I knew it was coming after my rejection from UofT as Laurier seemed even more competitive. The letter said there was 25 spots and 230 applicants "that met their minimum requirements". The average candidate had 9 years of relevant experience. Congrats to all who got in this program you should feel very proud of yourself! I will be applying to BSW fast tracked programs for 2021- the Orillia Lakehead is my first choice but I will also apply to Dalihouse, University of Manitoba and University of Victoria. Feel free to DM me if you are an applicant who did not get in who will be taking a BSW route before applying again to a masters!
  17. In my rejection letter from U of T 2 yr MSW program they said nearly 700 applied and there was a total of 130 spots! Congrats on getting in
  18. I'm sorry to hear about your rejection from Laurier! I had my rejection from UofT already and I am expecting one from Laurier at this point but haven't heard back...was this rejection for the online 2 year MSW starting in September?
  19. I just received my rejection through SGS through UOFT :(. I have been bracing myself as my CGPA and final year GPA was not competitive at all, just making the cut off for final year GPA (Otherwise I thought my personal statement, work and volunteer experience was relatively competitive). It doesn’t feel as bad as I thought though, it’s only made me more motivated to improve and try a second time! Does anyone know of any 1 year BSW programs for those who have a undergrad degree already? The rejection letter mentions doing a BSW or taking 4 courses at the senior level to improve GPA. Best wishes to everyone else
  20. I emailed Angela to ask. Will post her response once she replies.
  21. Congarts to all those getting your acceptances :). Just a question, has anyone been accepted into U of T MSW 2 year stream with a GPA between 3.0 and 3.5? I gather from posts it seems all very high 3's or 4.
  22. Congrats on your acceptance! I took CQMS Business 101 Stats at Ryerson online with Professor Chua, would recommend!
  23. Hi there! Congrats on your acceptance! It's nice to see individuals who didn't give up after the first attempt at applying . I had two questions for you- firstly, did you spend time improving your GPA or increasing volunteering/research experience after you got wait listed last year by U of T? Secondly, is your acceptance to U of T for the advanced standing MSW or the 2 year non BSW MSW? Thank you!
