  1. Curious about any updates on this end... It has been scarily quiet on my end.
  2. Oh wow... I didn't realize they sent out interviews for WGSS and AFAM already. Guess it is not looking good for me. Do you know if a professor contacted this person or through the portal? I am only asking because I am currently finishing my master's at Yale, and from what I know about their admissions process is that they typically send out all results through the portal at the same time. For example, when they sent out interviews when I applied they also sent out rejections at the same time. However, there is a chance this may differ for PhD programs. I haven't been able to find anything too specific about that process on their website.
  3. Hello! This is my first time applying to a PhD program, so I'm a little out of my element. I only applied to one program, Yale's combined African American Studies & WGSS. Not sure what to expect but crossing my fingers!
  4. Hey. I applied to UCLA for Painting and Drawing. Here's my timeline: -Interviewed Feb 11th -Accepted via phone call Feb 21st -Updated portal with acceptance letter March 10th (declined the offer March 13th) This being said, I know other people who applied in different departments who had interviews and such at different dates than I did. It seems like their communication is a little all over the place... anyway, hopefully that's helpful information.
  5. I actually feel okay about it, but thanks! Their funding is need based (determined by tax returns and such), and they offer work study. I believe that is all, for the first year. They don't give merit based scholarships. Apparently they can increase funding to students with financial need in their second year to off-set living expenses, and I think I read somewhere on their website that 2nd years can also apply to specific scholarships??? which is all cool but like what about the first year lol....? Anyway, the funding they are offering isn't too bad, I would just have to take out loans either way and I can't really justify doing that right now. Well like I guess the justification is that its Yale, I'm just not sure that's enough for me. I did the broke undergrad art student thing in NY and it wasn't very fun lol... I'll have to sit on it a little more, but it's definitely making me lean away from accepting.
  6. Tried asking Yale for more funding. No go, which I guess doesn't really surprise me. It's looking like this decision is becoming a bit easier to make..
  7. I received an email on March 10th with a financial aid letter. I'm in painting, btw.
  8. I haven't, they didn't necessarily offer. However I have been in communication with them about visiting and they said I could. I'd just have to figure everything out myself (travel, lodging, etc), which I guess isn't the hardest thing in the world to figure out, but it's been a little difficult having to do so around my job. Stanford paid for our visit (travel & lodging) which definitely made things easier. Anyway, I do plan on visiting (hopefully before April, if all goes well), which I'm sure would make the decision easier to make.
  9. Just officially declined my offer at UCLA (painting). Very hard decision to make, but ultimately I don't see myself there and didn't want to prolong the process. Hopefully they can offer the spot to someone who really wants it!!! Still deciding between Yale & Stanford. I didn't think a program would sway my decision as much as Stanford is but the offer is almost too good to give up. Health insurance, tuition is paid for, hefty stipend...! Anyway, just thought I should share. Good luck to everyone and their decisions, didn't think it would be this hard lol.. ?
  10. Oops, i meant to quote the UCLA aid question.
  11. I was actually going to ask this too. There isn't anything about funding in my letter, though I've been in conversation with the department head about it. I'm wondering if it will come later? It does say that we'd have to provide our SSN is order to import our FAFSA data.
  12. Omg yes I was lol. Stanford's facilities kind of blew me away! The grad studios are probably the largest grad studios ive ever seen lol.... like gigantic!
  13. Holy shit..... Accepted to Yale!!!!!!!! ???
  14. Anyone attending the second interview with Stanford tomorrow? I don't live in California so will be flying in tonight. First time visiting California... kind of excited lol, and a bit nervous..!
  15. Hey there! I went to Pratt for undergrad, and aside from taking 2 years of lithography and one year of screen printing, my "work study" job was being one of the techs for the print studios (I was very into printmaking as an undergrad). I worked alongside a lot of grad students as well. From my experience, and from visiting other print studios, Pratt has an extremely robust print studio layout. Giant screen printing room, very large litho stones with maybe 6 presses (?), intaglio studio, and a pretty big letter press studio. Many of the print faculty are master printers as well. I'm not sure if she's still there, but the studio manager at the time made prints for Louise Bourgeois (if you're into that), and one of the litho professors was like a litho freak, attended Tamarind and such. I can't necessarily speak to the grad program, or what life is like after grad school with jobs/teaching, but if you're looking for a school with great facilities Pratt definitely has them. Best of luck!
