  1. If you don’t mind my asking, what are the two schools? Also, I always say go for the one where you’ll be the happiest. There s no need in making more money if you’re miserable for five or six years on top of being in a rigorous program.
  2. Is there a list of when schools normally release decisions. There was one floating around a few years ago, but I can’t find it.
  3. This is how I’m feeling about the Penn State acceptance that went up Monday.
  4. Just curious…has anybody heard if apps are up or down this year. I feel like the past couple of years they’ve been at an all time high.
  5. OMG Yes!!! Such a problem. I lived in the Midwest for three years and defaulted to simply spelling my name first because no one seemed to understand me. It actually was a culture shock, and I became self conscious of how I spoke to people. When I moved back South, I forgot simple things like how we pronounce "water" and my own name lol.
  6. Not sure about Virginia, but I saw one PhD acceptance to Auburn last week. I saw another one again yesterday. They may just be sending out notifications over the course of time.
  7. Got accepted to Auburn for their M.A. I originally applied to their PhD, but they recommended I start at the M.A level. I'm from Alabama, so I'm fine with that. I'm excited because this would've made my second year being shut out. Let me know if you're also considering Auburn. Also, I went to law school at IU if anyone has questions about the school or Bloomington.
  8. Vanderbilt’s rejection language: Thank you for your interest in our English graduate program. I am sorry to have to inform you that our review of your application and credentials did not lead to a recommendation of admission. If you have applied to more than one Vanderbilt program, you will receive a separate communication regarding your application to each program. The Graduate School at Vanderbilt University receives applications from many outstanding candidates. Unfortunately, limited resources and competition among well-qualified applicants preclude our offering admission to all who seek it. Please know that your application and supporting materials received a close and careful review. Admissions decisions are difficult, both for faculty who review applications and for applicants who await notification. I regret having to send you this disappointing news, but I wish you every success in the pursuit of your educational goals.
  9. Lol at San Diego sending out rejections at 2:30 in the morning.
  10. Yes, mine disappeared too.... not sure what that means.
  11. Are the two Cornell acceptances and rejection for English or Comp Lit? It seems like they may be the latter. Or just me not giving up hope on Cornell just yet.
  12. Lol I need to stay off the Results page....I’ve been incessantly refreshing hoping the acceptances are sent over time and not all at once.
  13. Yeah, me too. Last year, acceptances and rejections went out the same day. Since I haven't received either, maybe more acceptances will go out tomorrow.
  14. I see there is an acceptance and a waitlist on the Results page for Vanderbilt. I wonder if all acceptance and waitlist emails have gone out for them.
  15. Possibly a sign. I applied, but I didn’t get that email. I also didn’t apply until the last week, so maybe they just haven’t gotten to my application yet.
  16. I went to law school first, now I am pursuing a PhD in English. It was my plan to do it in undergrad. Looking back I likely would still do it in the order I did it because I probably would not have gone to law school after the PhD. I didn't plan on practicing full time, so going first likely was the best option for me. In my experience, depending on the rigors of the law program, both at the same time sounds like torture. The way you analyze and write for law is the complete opposite of law school. I had to break from how I wrote in undergrad for English papers when I went to law school. By the time I finished, I had to do the same with legal writing. I feel like I can easily switch back and forth now, but trying to do it while in school sounds like a strenuous process. I'm not saying it can't be done (one of my classmates was in med school and law school at the same time), but it likely will add more stress that you won't need.
  17. I wonder what the timeline is for Cornell. They were one of the earliest deadlines, so I imagine they should come pretty soon.
  18. In case anyone was wondering, CU Boulder announced they were no longer accepting applications for next year. Guess I will have to find another program to replace it on my list.
  19. Does anyone list the other schools they are applying to in your applications? Will this help or hurt the application? It seems like it could be a double-edged sword.
  20. It's so good to know I'm not the only one. I am definitely looking forward to finishing everything.
  21. Has anyone finished all of their materials? I am coming around the bend of finishing, but I am anxious about being behind on my schedule.
  22. I'm not sending mine to the schools that say it's optional. I was only in like the 75th percentile, so I don't see the point.
