  1. Do any of you use OneDrive or iCloud? I am wondering if it’s worth paying for because I hear many writers say that a cloud is better than saved on a laptop or flash drive. I know as writers we panic if one of our plays is lost or laptop crashes.
  2. Please let me know how negotiating works because I am thinking of doing the same thing if it works out well for you. I am already in debt from undergrad.
  3. I did receive financial aid but only $15K scholarship and the maxed amount of the Federal Unsubsidized Loan. I haven’t pushed for more aid because I was told that it’s not until the last minute when they know if they get more funding or not. I am going to have to take out loans. I know it’s expensive but it’s totally worth it and been told several times that it is not just by Columbia but friends, family, and coworkers of mine.
  4. out of all the posts about waitlist and rejections yours stuck out the most to me. Idk why really. I applied to nine schools: Northwestern, USC, UCLA, CMU, Columbia, Brown, UCSD, Yale, and NYU. This was my first year applying. I was rejected by CMU first—no interview. Then I heard back from Northwestern—interview and then a Yale rejection. I was so discouraged because Yale was my number one. I had just had an interview with Northwestern the same day. A few weeks later I hear back from Columbia and it took me by surprise they wanted an interview and a few days later they are granting me acceptance into their program and the day before that I was rejected from Brown, UCSD, and waitlisted at Northwestern. And this week I found out I was waitlisted at NYU. I haven’t heard back from UCLA and USC. Through the whole process I told myself I had a better shot at getting into CMU than any Ivy League. I am learning that life is full of surprises and we should be proud of trying. There are so many people who will say I can do that but don’t do it or have anything to show for it. And all these programs are looking for something different. I’m saying this as a message of hope that the universe will surprise you. This is all a long journey. You took that shot and it made it in the hoop—you didn’t lose the game or win the game because it’s all about getting better and recovering from the shots that you didn’t try. if that makes sense. Sorry for the long post. I just wanted to put my story and journey out there for any of you who are losing hope or wanna give up. I think we all go through that especially in this career path.
  5. Could you ask your friend about the financial aid process and loans/scholarships I could receive? I have a few bills I’d have to pay on addition to rent.
  6. I am also having trouble with the financial aid at Columbia University. I already accepted and put down my tuition deposit. I keep wondering if it’ll be financially feasible to live in NYC but my parent keep telling me it’ll all work itself out. I am excited about this all. However @Awp and @Aeli23 what are y’all doing about housing? I am currently looking at apartments and trying to find roommates. This is all so new and nerve wracking for me. Also @Awp I feel you on the financial aid stuff and how confusing it is. I’ll have to take out loans. It’s no big deal but I’m hoping I’ll have enough to cover living expenses and tuition. This is my dream school!
  7. I just received a phone call from David Henry Hwang about my acceptance to Columbia University which makes all the rejection worthwhile. I have decided to accept the offer when my official acceptance package comes. I am excited about this opportunity. I wish you all still going through the process or waiting to hear back good luck. And to keep your head high because I know the waiting and rejection sucks. I have received on a day to day basis as an actor and in my current full time job.
  8. I was waitlisted at Northwestern and rejected from Brown University today. This process has been unbelievably hard and trying especially for my anxiety and the little patience—I already have. I am happy to have this forum and see the positivity on here. It’s really helped me know there are others out there who are going through this with you.
  9. Congrats! I had an interview with them but I haven’t heard back, so I’m taking it that I wasn’t accepted! But congrats. And at least try to fight for some more funding.
  10. I am anxiously waiting to hear back from Columbia while waiting to hear from Brown University. I see most of you on here who applied already received a status update but I haven’t. I’m worried about why I haven’t.
  11. You’re right. I was wrong. My bad. Like I said I can’t put names to faces. I’ve become really bad with names. I drove up to NYC for my interview so I’m super exhausted.
  12. I just remember Anne being the first name and her work with both film and theatre department. I am bad with names and faces, so don’t take my word.
  13. Really? That’s great to hear. They gave me some great feedback on my play.
