I haven't started graduate school yet, so I can't comment on lifestyle, but I'd say your food costs are high. I'm from Indianapolis and the cost of living is about as low as it gets around here and that stipend is a little higher than I've seen in a lot of packages. If you ate for around $8-10 a day you'd gain around $150/mo. Good luck!
What schools are people waiting for?
I'm waiting to hear from USC, UCI, and IU.
Accepted: UIC, Northeastern
Waiting: USC, UCI, IU
Rejected: Purdue, UIUC, WUSTL
What are people's thoughts about chances of working in academia in CS with a PhD from UIC or Northeastern. They are both out of the top 50. I know the chances at USC, UCI, and IU are substantially higher, but I'm just trying to figure out my plans. Thanks!
The only school I have in common with you in USC and I have not heard from them. There have been several posts on the results page though. My fingers are still crossed.
