  1. The thing is that admissions notifications have been pretty consistent over the years. Perhaps a graduate program would be loathe to disrupt what might be a particularly timed event. What is interesting though is despite the ostensible increase in applications, post activity here is comparatively more infrequent than last year (which itself wasn't really active). What does this mean?

  2. Would anyone be willing to take a glance at my SOP? In addition, do we have any sense of how long these things should be? I understand most programs want around 1000 words. My question is whether this is a hard and fast rule: like, do committees get pissed off if we send a 1250 word SOP? 1500? Tks.

  3. After Columbia and Brown and Penn's decision to pause PhD admissions for the upcoming cycle, is it likely that other top schools (Yale, Chicago, Harvard) will be following suit? It just feels like an ominous track record and now I'm thinking about whether it is even worth putting in the mental effort to prepare to apply if it is unlikely there will even be top programs to apply to.

  4. Is there anybody waiting to hear back from a phd program? im an IR applicant for a top 10 program whos been placed on a waitlist. ive heard from some that theyve declined their offer but i still havent heard back from my program. usually what are the chances of someone getting off the waitlist, how much longer do we wait, why does this process feel so excruciatingly painful etc etc
