  2. Thanks for all the suggestions so far. Im not a fan of apple computers, so that is not an option. I dont mind ipads, ipod etc.. But Macs. no. Im looking to spend up to 800 if its a siple tablet or netbook. If I end up picking a small laptop around 11inches, id spend only a tad more but I think 800 is reasonable. Im looking into lenevo, toshiba, dell, and hp. Ive herad good things about the HP dm1z anyone own one? still looking...
  3. typed from my phone. Sorry, my phone is not loading the site properly, so my text looks weird.
  4. I'm starting graduate school in the fall and im in desperate need of a new PC. Im considering A tablet PC or laptop, in addition to buying an ipad maybe. I think if I can find a good tablet I won't Purchase an ipad, but if I cant. Ill buy a cheaper laptop for space purposes and a ipad for light travel Notes, and things. Does anyone have any suggestions for a PC that would be a good choose for reserach purposes in science?
  5. Im just sending out emails to professors, trying to see who is open to take students. Not much luck yet. Poor economy is really taking a tole. if you need help contact the student affairs and they will help you out. Good luck!
  6. Thank you! No its not fully funded, you have to find a mentor to fund it for you. You're required to find one ASAP so the good thing is, you will likely have funding atleast if you plan to do the masters. Ill be applying the PHD program after there and some other places more than liekly.
  7. I was admitted, I applied for a PHD in biomedical sciences..but got into the MAsters instead. So Im guessing im in the biomedical sciences master program but I will be concentrating on Immunology. Did you also get in? Have you found a Mentor?
  8. thanks everyone, all your comments where really helpful. Just hope i get a bit of funding, and it wil be fine.
  9. hey, i been in contact with the dean of admissions. I was wait listed for an interview. At least you got an interview. from what we have talked about it is basically a really rough situation this time around, with money being cut. They accepting fewer people, so even if you got an interview the chances are far slimmer now, then it was in the past. She really expressed that it was likely they would not accept alot of people this year. So good luck, hope it works out!
  10. Yea this is looking like the wise chose, even if I rake up a little debt, maybe better than sitting out and adding interest to loans/ needing to spend money on reapplying, which also cost a fortune! Good luck with your apps.
  11. So I applied for a Ph.D and due to my GRE score not being the best of the best, on top of the school cutting admits down due to finances I was offered a position in the Masters Program. I'm seriously considering taking the offer, but I was curious to know what other people might do in this situation. I am sure I got rejected from the other schools I applied to, because I have heard nothing. The other option is to sit out a year and "try" to find a job in this horrible economy and have to start paying on my loans from undergrad. I'm not totally opposed to this, but with no job, there is no way I can pay back loans. This is why Im leaning toward the safer option, getting the masters from a great school , that will boost my application for the PhD in 2 years. My only other concern is funding for the masters. Just wondering what other people would do in this situation? Take the masters or wait a year, retake GRE and apply for Fall 2012?
  12. yea so I tired the waiting thing for less than 24hrs but Im really anixous. So I just reemailed them. haha I'll let you know what I hear back.
  13. So I emailed the admissions committe head on feb 7th and I asked about my application status. I was told that I had been placed on a waitlist for an interview and that they didn't know at the time if I would get an interview just yet because they where still going through applications. I was told that I could know by March 1 if they had enough money to invite me out for an interview. As you know today is March 2nd and Im really trying not to freak out but I'm not doing a great job so far. I really am temepted to emial again and ask about my status update, should I do so? or should I just give it one more day or so and see if I hear anything before the end of the week?
  14. i applied in december about the 1st and contacted him in feb. Around the 7th. I meet him feb 25th. Not sure if he seen my application or not but I have been told im still in the running.

  18. Got a friend who got in vanderbilt for biochem phd
  19. I'm on a interview waitlist for one of my school. I was told this on feb 7, and reason being that more people needed to be reviewed first to see how manypeople they can afford to fly down and even admit. I was told I'd hear something by march 1, so I'm staying opptomistic. I know they sent a few admits so far and one guy I know, went back in Jan first round and still has not been offered a spot. I'll let you know "when" I get off it and interview, wishful thinking. : )
  20. Deep hole
  21. I actually had a positive result from doing this, the school I applied to is rather large and I had over 30 people to look through, I narrowed my options down to 3 I really liked but only emailed two of them. I have a meeting with one of them on next friday and he actually iniated the meeting. He was very nice and open. I merely stated my interest, past research, talked about how his work overlaps with my future goals and interest and thats all. So its sometimes worth a shot.
  22. This is my dog, her name is Lizzy. She is a Chihuahua/Jack Russel mix. As you can see, she enjoys wearing cute shirts.
  23. One last question when did you turn your application in?
  24. Is this uthsc in houston? Im still waiting on a possible interview, when is yours?
  25. Im not really into the tarot card stuff but it is sort of weird that they guessed right about your husbands app but id still remain opptomistic, its not a no yet. I got a similar email so I know how it feels
