  1. Wondering if anyone would be interested in swapping statements once they are written? To help edit, or bring up things that could be added. May also be cool to get some inspiration or new ideas to write.

I applied for MSW program for September 2020 and I did this with some friends who applied and found it helpful. Would love to do it with people I don’t personally know.

If anyone is down you can dm me

  2. I contacted York University to ask about my MSW status as it still says under consideration when the dead line was June 1st. I was informed that they are still giving out acceptances into June and possible July. I haven’t heard of anyone else getting an acceptance yet so I am unsure how true this statement is. Has anyone else heard from York recently?

I am planning to apply to MSW programs at UofT and Uwindsor (MSW for Working Professions) for fall 2021. Unfortunately my GPA is at the cutoff point (73%) but I have 4 years of experience in teaching and health promotion. Does anyone know how competitive Uwindsor MSW for Working Professions is?

I know someone who applied who had 6 years of experience working in the field and was denied. But then I also know someone who got in with 6 years of experience. I think there gpa made the difference especially on the research and stats course the school requires. Like most masters of social work program it is competitive and they really look and the type of experience one after completing there bsw and there education background. Strong references are also important.

Thanks so much for replying. What kind and how much experience do you have in social work? Just trying to gauge if I should apply to U of T.

I am a recent graduate so I have 700 hours from my placement at a foster care agency. I have experience volunteering for multiple crisis lines like Kids Help Phone for over a year now. Experience as a teaching as assistant for 2 years. Also have work and volunteering experience working with seniors running programs. As well as one to one work with people living with physical and mental disabilities.
While most of my social work experience is volunteer based I got hired at my placement so I am now working in the social work field full time. By the time September 2021 comes along I will have over a year of experience with my agency.

I have a pretty high average in my social work program and especially in my last 2 years. I went to york and they have a 9 point gpa scale. Went I applied I had a 8 point average with A’s or B+’s in all my courses.

U of T is the most competitive school. They have the most people applying from all over ontario and other places in the world. They take around a 100 or so students. If you are applying to advanced they have specializations. I’m not sure how many they take from each specialization but when I talked to the Gracie heads they said the child and family program is the most popular. Which just so happens to be the one I want to do.

    Hope this helps!

I am applying to U of T for Advanced Standing and was wondering what your grade was in your research methods course? If you don't mind sharing or want to personally message me. I'm a little worried about mine and considering on taking an additional research methods course.

I got an A in my research course

    Hello,

    thank you for your response!

Have you heard of or kniw anyone who has been taken on the waitlist for the Children and Families specialization at UofT?

    thank you

    No I do not.

  7. Hi everyone,

So I have actually applied to MSW programs for a September 2020 start date. Unfortunately I was declined from Lauriers part time online program, and waitlisted from York’s advanced standing and University of Toronto’s advanced standing. While there is still hope I may get in if people defer or decline I have already began planning what schools I will apply to for September 2021.

Right not I am looking at York, UofT, and Ryerson. I was interested in the Waterloo program but it requires a stats course which I don’t have and not sure if I want to get. Applying was an extremely stressful process and not really looking forward to doing it again but I really want to pursue a masters. Social work is super competitive which most programs taking 25-50 people. From the feedback I have gotten your application needs to have lots of experience working in the field or something similar. Research and gpa is also another big one. Schools with thesis will look at your research course grade and that will play a large role in your acceptance.

    Wish everyone luck!

    Hello,

I have been waitlisted at uoft (Children and Families) - has anyone declined there offer ?
Just trying to gain some hope.

has any been taken off the waitlist for this specialization at uoft?

    Hey,

I have been waitlisted for the same specialization. Look like the waitlist hasn’t been moving in the last couple of days. I was informed that the last day to pay the deposit to secure a spot is June 1. So my guess is afterwards some spots may be available if people didn’t pay.

    Hey everyone!

This is my first time using this forum and I was wondering has anyone applied to the Jan 2021 start for the advanced standing online program at Laurier or have any feedback about Laurier? :)

I applied for September 2020 and got rejected. They only take 25 people so very competitive From the email I got sounds like they tend to take people with over 7 years of work/volunteering experience.

I just received an email stating that I was put onto the waitlist. Sigh. Does anyone know how long the waitlist is for MSW WP Advance Standing at Windsor? In the email it stated that it cannot disclose where you stand on the waitlist.

Just curious about your levels of experience? Interested in applying to this program in the next few years.

    Thank you!

I just graduated with my BSW in April from Laurier. I have volunteered at a non-profit since 2017, worked at a retirement home for 4 years and had placements at St Joseph's Healthcare and Hamilton Wentworth District School Board. In terms of research, I worked as a research assistant for one of my professors last summer as well acted as a "research apprentice" where I developed a study on gentrification/homelessness. I really think research experiences helps build MSW applications & if you're interested you could email some professors and ask them if they are looking for any help with their studies. That's what I did last year, because I knew I was going to be applying to MSW's and knew it was going to be quite competitive. It really paid off for me in the end.

When are you planning on applying?

Applied for fall 2020 but have been waitlisted from University of Toronto and denied from Lauriers Advanced online program. Still waiting to hear back from York about there advanced program.

Looking into the idea of applying next year or the year after that to some more schools. Hopefully with some added experience I’d be able to get in. Most of my experience is in child welfare, classrooms or crisis hotline settings. Mostly through volunteering. Don’t have much experience in research.

I'm in the Advanced Standing (non working professional) stream at Windsor. I received my offer in early February.

    Good luck to you!

    Congrats on getting in!

Looking at the Windsor program and wondering what your experience and education level is.

I applied to WLU online part-time, MSW advanced standing (I already have a BSW) for September 2020 start and was waitlisted today. I was notified by email. There are approx 43 spots on the waitlist and they will not let you know where you are on the waitlist. Response is required by May 29 if I accept or decline a spot on the waitlist. Waitlist will stay open until August 31, 2020. I just checked LORIS and there is no update, it still shows my application details. I will be declining to go on the waitlist as I've accepted a spot elsewhere.

Posting this for any future applicants who obsess and read through old posts like I did. :)

    Good luck to everyone.

Out of curiosity which school did you get accepted to and what were your years of experience/education?
