Got an email at 10:30 pm EDT from NSERC, inviting me to create an account on the extranet. Unfortunately, I did not receive an offer. Selection Committee No.: 179 - S&F Selection Committee for Chemistry.

Regarding 1, I had an interview with a POI at CMU BME and thought it went quite well. I had an offer from another university and emailed the POI about my status and he replied, saying that he couldn't offer me a spot due to funding. So I got rejected and found out by emailing the POI. Not an acceptance, but this might indicate that they are making progress with the recruitment process. -

Haha, read my post above. I'm in the same situation except at CMU. Hope we can hear some good news soon ? -

I had an informal interviewed with a PI at Carnegie Mellon University early in January and I felt that it went pretty smoothly. Anyone else apply there or know if I should be anticipating any other interview days or events? The wait is really making me anxious. -

Looks like that UC Berkeley/UCSF bioengineering rejection email just came through for a few people, judging by the new posts on the results page. ☠️ Over 680 applicants for the UC Berkeley/UCSF bioengineering program, according to the rejection email. -

Did anyone else get freaked out by the email from the Johns Hopkins BME program with the subject line "update on your application to the JHU BME PhD program" or just me? For anyone wondering, it basically said that they received over 700 applications this year and remaining interviews invites will be sent by faculty sometime in the next few weeks. -

I had two interviews at McGill in December. One interview at NYU and one at Carnegie Mellon so far in Jan 2021. Rejected from BU on Monday. -

Undergrad Institution (approx. rank/reputation in STEM): Large public research university in Canada. 450-500 in the world. Major(s): BSc and MSc in biology Minor(s): None GPA in Major: 3.47/4.00 (undergraduate) and 4.00/4.00 (graduate) Overall GPA: 3.59/4.00 (undergraduate) and 3.68/4.00 (undergraduate and graduate) Demographics/Background: Asian male, Canadian citizen (applying to the USA so I guess international) GRE Scores: Did not write LOR: Two strong letters: one from MSc PI and one from honours thesis committee member. One good letter: former professor for a course and former department Chair. Research Experience: Eight months of research in a genetics lab. Going to be one year (out of two years for MSc) of research on bioinstrumentation and biosensors in a bioengineering lab when I apply. Publications/Abstracts/Presentations: Two poster presentations at my university. One first author publication hopefully submitted before I get my applications in. Awards/Honors/Recognitions: In reverse chronological order: Canadian national graduate scholarship ($17,500) Canadian provincial graduate scholarship ($15,000) Two awards for the poster presentations ($600 x 2) Graduate student fellowship ($11,000) Graduated on dean's honour roll ($0) Three small scholarships during my bachelor's ($645, $500, $1,500) Fellowships/Funding: None for my PhD (yet). Had some for my MSc (see above), but it isn't going to carry over to my PhD. Pertinent Activities or Jobs: TA for four undergraduate biology classes. Other Miscellaneous Accomplishments: Various service and outreach activities (accomplishments): Graduate student mentor (one year) Member of graduate student committee that evaluates honours theses (two years) University ambassador (two one-day events) Laboratory science demonstrator for faculty (one-day event) Summer hospital volunteer (three summers) Public library volunteer (one year) Anything else in your application that might matter (faculty connections, etc.): Nothing. No faculty connections. Research Interests: bioinstrumentation, bioMEMS, biosensors, high-throughput screening, medical devices, microfluidics, point-of-care testing Institutions/Programs: All bioengineering, biological engineering, biomedical engineering or molecular engineering programs University of California, Los Angeles The University of British Columbia Columbia University Brown University University of Toronto McGill University University of California, Berkeley California Institute of Technology University of California, San Diego Johns Hopkins University Stanford University University of Washington Cornell University Harvard University Massachusetts Institute of Technology Yale University Carnegie Mellon University The University of Chicago I already identified faculty at these schools doing work in my area of interest. I haven't contacted anyone yet though. Comments: Biology major, but I took graduate level classes in computer programing, microfluidics, and optical measurement. Money and location isn't an issue for my applications or during my doctoral studies. Hoping to apply to many places because I can afford it and because I feel as though I may be disadvantaged because of my low-ranking school, okay-ish GPA, and non-engineering background. Open to (or hoping to hear) some feedback. -

Just got a notification that I've been offered the CGS-M! I'm assuming that this means that the alternates are moving along the list. I'm at York University in the Department of Biology if it matters. I also emailed the faculty of graduate studies at my school a few weeks ago to ask for my waitlist rank, but they never replied. I wish they would release that information.
