  1. Did anyone who got an acceptance have low gpa for the 2 year program. Low as in 71-74? I know I asked this before, but just wondering since some of you got acceptances. My experience in various human direct and indirect services amounts to about 2000 hours.
  2. When is the deadline for Winter 2022?
  3. Oh I did not realize that was an option. Maybe I should too
  4. So even though it says professional reference, volunteer counts? This is what it says in the admissions PDF about Professional Sources. Volunteer sources are under category B. I am not given this option in the form. Category ? Professional Source (from a professional perspective) – A social worker, physician, nurse, psychologist, psychiatrist, chaplain, or similar community based professional
  5. Sorry one more question. I am filling out the applications for Western and am confused about the references. It says I need two references from professional sources. I work as a tutor, but apart from that I only volunteered in non-profits at my school as a staffer. Did you put paid work references ? It says they require references from jobs like "nursing, physicians...or similar professionals"
  6. Did anyone apply to the University of Western 2-year MSW program or one year? I had a question about the references. I had the impression that I could choose references from professional or volunteer sources. The application asks for two professional sources. My problem is this. I have one paid work experience. The others are from a non-profit. I worked their as a staff member, but as a volunteer. I was not paid. Does it still count as a professional reference?
  7. One more question. Did I understand correctly that the Western MSW program does not have any specialization. That is what I got from their site.
  8. May I ask what your average was and general experience? My average is about a 73 in my final two years and 74ish overall. I have a lot of volunteering experience. 1700. Might not be that much actually. It is not in social work though. I am paranoid about not getting in. I applied to Windsor, U of Toronto and will also apply to Western.
  9. what university did you get into?
  10. So I am applying to the two year msw program for non-BSW graduates at the University of Windsor. It says on their website that they require relevant volunteering experience. I have a lot of volunteering, leadership opportunities and one experience I recently started at the centre for sexual violence at my university as a volunteer. I have experience in two student run non-profits, tutoring experiences, an internship at a Chinese news station, president of the Russian Speaking Student Association, Nursing home volunteering from high school. Do you think they will count it as relevant experience? I emailed University of Windsor and they just told me to include whatever I thought was relevant and did not give anymore details. I have approximately 1700 hours total.

  12. I heard from someone that the program practices rolling admissions, is there anywhere on the site that it says this? I want to check if it is the same for my program
  13. May I ask when you applied and how long it took you to hear back for UWindsor?
  14. I am also applying for the 2 year program. I am just finishing up my statement. I had so many problems with some references. One of my references was perfect for my application and I could not ask anyone else, but he is still working on the form. For me that was the most stressful part. I am not sure how could my statement of intent is. I had so many other master's applications to fill out, exams assignments, work, volunteering and taking 7 credits. I do not even have time for someone to look at my statement and edit it. I have two big assignments due tomorrow. Good luck! May I ask how much experience you had?
  15. Can I ask what school you got into and how much experience you had in terms of years?
  16. May I ask what was your average when you got accepted and your level of experience? I just want to gage how competitive UWindsor is.
  17. Can I asked your GPA in percentage? Different university have different percentage to GPA equivelants.
  18. Did you have all of the experience when you applied. You said you learned your mistakes, but I did not get what the mistakes were.
  19. Can I ask your GPA in percentage? In different universities a 3.29 GPA can mean different things. Congrats on getting in.
  20. Since my marks are not the greatest. Can anyone recommend any MSW schools that are not as competetive. It can be anywhere in Canada.
  21. I am wondering if anyone has ever resubmitted there grades after the fall semester. I am applying for the 2 year MSW, but because of mental health my fourth year grades were not so good so I am doing s fifth year. I took 2 summer courses as well and am doing very well so far. However, since the university requires that all grades be submitted by December, the university won't see my fall term grades. I was hoping I could resubmit my grades in January, once my fall grades are up. So that they will have an updated transcript. Has anyone ever done this?
  22. I am taking the Research Methods for Social Science at Athabasca in July. I looked at the course material and assignments and it is hectic. There are three quizzes, one midterm, one essay, reviews of certain articles to write. On top of that you have to do an in depth research proposal with how you plan to conduct an actually project, then conduct the study, and write a finally paper which includes you methods, purpose of study, data, and interpretation. This is a 3 credit course. It is all online. I heard from some people that they tried really hard on an essay and got only 75. I myself am worried. The other psychology based research methods course at Athabsca was my other option. I decided against it because I heard a lot that a B+ is doable, but straight A's hard. I cannot comment on the other acceptable courses, but I am not sure it is a good option. How about this, I will take the course first. I plan to finish it by august if I try hard and I will let you know my first hand experience. From what I heard in most places. In terms of weather or not they look at the second grade only, not sure for UofT, but I contacted York's program admission's staff and they said they only look at the second grade. Hopefully someone else know about U of T's policy. I also have some retakes and am worried about that.
