Hey there!
I'm also a May 2020 college graduate and also a finalist for a 2020-21 Fulbright Open Study/Research in the East Asia region. I think what helped out my application the most was developing a theme around your experiences in your essays. Specifically for the PS, I centered my essay around how my childhood interest in foreign language and sciences shaped my professional goals, highlighting my research experience and foreign language study to show how that interest has stuck with me until now. Since I applied for research, what I had to convey in my SoGP might be slightly different from yours; what I did was made it clear why my research is important, why I had to be in the specific country I chose, what I aimed to do by the end of the grant, and what I would do after Fulbright.
Hope this helps!
