I applied to BU on by the January priority deadline and was waitlisted on Thursday (2/11). It doesn‘t seem like anyone else has heard definite acceptances or rejections from them yet, so maybe they sent out the waitlists first? I really don’t know though, that is just my experience and guess. I think you are just going to have to watch the forum posts and your inbox/junk mail. Good luck!

Thanks!! They did not include financial aid information, they might do it later or only after you accept the offer and put down a deposit (which I am not going to do). If they get back to me and offer me any aid i will respond to you in the thread. Best of luck with your applications!

Hi! Thanks! Yes it is good, I wasn’t expecting it because my admissions counselor had told me that they wouldn’t be reviewing applications until after the deadline, but she never replied to my follow up email when I asked if admissions were rolling. so that confused me haha. I applied to UMB because it is in close proximity to where I am currently living, to be honest that was the only reason. I actually applied to the Shady Grove campus in Rockville so I would be able to commute instead of move to Baltimore. I think it is a solid program, but just not the best fit for me because I hope to move somewhere new. Is it one of your top schools?

hi! so i totally get what you’re saying here. i know that i considered maybe even doing an online social work program because of the pandemic situation. i am hopeful about possible vaccines this spring and summer (i believe the roll out has only been going on for a few weeks so far). i am planning to move because some schools have hybrid options, but everything is so uncertain regarding the programs, that that could change depending on what the schools plan. i went to a q&a session with current students and they said that in the pandemic group chats were a big thing among students in the program so they were able to connect that way. i think you could find safe ways to socialize with people if you wanted to try to do that (outside, masks, etc.) i understand if you would want to defer and wait for a better more normal experience. i personally, would like to get my degree asap so that i could get my career started, but i think you will know which is best for you. best of luck!

I was told mid to late February. I am guessing it will be either the 18th or 19th because decisions are usually released 6-8 weeks after the deadline and that would be 6 weeks from January 4th. I am also waiting and BU is my first choice. Best of luck to you!

I don’t know if anyone else applied to the University of Maryland in this thread, but I heard back from them via email today. I applied in December, but the deadline wasn’t until March so I was a little surprised. I am still waiting on one last school (BU) and UMB is my safety school, but it is nice to have options!

Thanks, you as well! If you are ready to accept from BC, congratulations! I am kind of envious because you will be more certain about your future plans. I asked and was given an extension from BC admissions before I decide on their offer, so I could wait to hear admissions decisions from other schools I applied to. BU is my top choice, so I do really want to wait hear from them before committing to a program.

Yeah I think that it will be a bit different than your past experience. That is one of the reasons I chose not to work towards a MA in Pysch and pursue an MSW, because I didn't want to be in a lab, I wanted to work in the field and don't like doing research. From what I have heard Macro seems to be more about conducting research, more in a lab setting than working in the field. I hope that helps and good luck in finding out more!

I applied for clinical, and I hope to specialize in CYF or Mental Health. I just got my BA in Psychology where my coursework was very research focused. I would recommend going to information sessions! I have attended a few for BU already, one was more casual Lunch and Learn and another was A Day in the Life of an MSW student. I know that Boston University is very committed to empirically supported theories, especially in regard to social justice, because that is a large part of the university and its mission. At an information session I went to for BC, a current professor said that the coursework was pretty rigorous and a lot about application of theories. Do you mean conducting research or reading empirical articles? I am pretty sure, in general, a PhD in Social Work would be more intensive in conducting research than an MSW program, where I think it would be more reading about and using methodologies supported by research. I would recommend going to future information sessions or reaching out to admissions to connect you to a current faculty member or student.

Yes I emailed admissions and they extended the date I had to respond to March 1st for me (another school I applied to said they wouldn’t get back to me until March). I think if you explain that other schools you are waiting back from and provide dates or rough timelines, they will create a deadline that best fits you. BU told me we would hear back mid to late February by the way.

Yeah I have also heard that BU won't give you as much scholarship funds. I think that is usually the case based on the size of the institution (smaller can give more scholarships, but larger ones can't).

The BU On campus program is in the heart of Boston, it is an easily accessible city by foot and public transit, and most fieldwork internships are in the city. Boston College is in the suburbs outside of Boston (Chesnut Hill/Newton area), so you may need to have access to a car, for example to get to your internships. BU is a larger school so that could be either good or bad for you, I would prefer to meet more people, as opposed to being in the same classes with the same group of people for the program. BC is smaller so you would be able to make better connections with faculty and students and it has more of a campus, whereas BU is very urban and spread out. I think it is all about what fits for you, for example, I do not have a car, want to be in an urban environment, and would prefer being at a bigger university.

I emailed admissions and they said it is not rolling and we won't hear back until mid to late February regardless how early we submitted. I don't know how I can wait for another month!!!
-
I also got my acceptance today! Congratulations to everyone! I asked to extend when I would respond though, because I won't hear from BU and UMB until February and March.

So in the bottom right corner of the application there is something called "Access for additional student services" that just showed up for me. I signed into the BC portal (Agora) with the username and BC ID (password) that was listed there. Then I changed my password to something I created and answered some security questions. I read in past forums that people were able to see their admissions decisions in the portal before receiving the email, but I don't see anything yet about that.

I applied. I think that we are supposed to hear back by the 8th? I could be wrong but I thought that's what they said at an information session. I am hoping it is earlier, it seems like many msw admissions decisions are being sent out today (January 6th).

Hello! I applied to Bryn Mawr College, Boston College, Boston University, and University of Maryland. BU is my first choice, and I applied early (the deadline is 1/7). I submitted my applications for BC and BMC on 12/1 and to BU and UMB on 12/17. I just heard back from Bryn Mawr with 40% tuition scholarship! Good luck to everyone!

Congrats! I don't think that the admissions are rolling, but I am going to ask about that because I applied in late December.
