Thanks! Tbh I don’t think it’s too likely I’ll change my mind: my bf has an interview with the pharmacology program and they have one of the best in the world. If he gets in, it’s a no brainer for both of us so fingers crossed!!! His interview is today so I’m just trying to distract myself haha

It’s getting late in the cycle for most of those schools, BUT there’s no reason you can’t wait until April 15th or at least a couple more weeks until you know for sure about the rest of those schools. I get the urge to just pull the trigger and just be done, though.

Yeah I applied to Irvine too. I thought based on my current results I wouldn’t have trouble getting in but I haven’t heard anything yet. My friend who goes there had like a 3.2 in undergrad and was in my research lab on the same project. Sigh. Honestly, the worst part of this process is the rejections you know are coming but haven’t gotten yet. I have a couple rn. It’s like waiting for a meteor to hit.

UCI (Irvine, right?) is also SO spread out. I have friend there who got in mid Feb. Stanford, I’m worried all that’s left is the slaughter day, based on how many admits have been posted so far and that they tend to do it all in one or two days.
-
Honestly, it seems like the admissions cycle is starting to come to an end. Everyone in this thread has some great options and a lot of celebrate.

I’ll be honest- I’ve heard about the toxic environment from a lot of the top 5 schools which is a big reason I choose not to apply there. Northwestern was my dream school for years, and my undergrad PI told me she couldn’t send me there with a clear conscious because of the suicides. Don’t get me wrong- rejection sucks and getting into these schools is a HUGE accomplishment. But in some ways it may be better for your mental health

Rip Harvard slaughter day. I didn’t even apply and I still feel bad. Sending hugs and well wishes to all of you.

Thank you! I’ve very happy with the result and program. Still watching this thread and silently rooting for you all

Received offers from TAMU, VT, and UCSC (interview) this weekend. Will very likely be accepting UNC Chapel Hill after the visit weekend in February! Still have a couple schools left but I prefer unc to all of them. Feeling pretty done with this cycle! Good luck to everyone else!

I was also rejected from Vanderbilt on Friday night, and I applied organic as well. The research fit was admittedly poor and I only applied to have another chance to stay with my boyfriend. It was shocking none the less, as I’ve been accepted into multiple top 20 programs with large fellowships. I contacted my PI about it and she said she heard Vanderbilt Orgo was really struggling with money, so please don’t beat yourself up about it too much. Sincerely hoping your remaining 8 are all acceptances

This is a great attitude to have! It’s easy to get caught up on a certain school, but the reality is that you will probably have a similar caliber experience and career prospects at most of the top 10/ top 15 schools. Not to mention that just going to grad school is a huge accomplishment that not many achieve. I hope you hear back soon, though!!!

I didn’t apply to Princeton, and while I heard they tend to send all admits at once, anything can happen. I just wanted to say keep your head up, this process is so hard but I promise there’s a light at the end of it.

Apparently the ACS submission deadline for the spring 2021 conference is tonight at midnight, which explains why chemistry seems very slow today. Remember to take a breath and keep things in perspective, everyone. It will all work out ok I’m confident everyone in this thread will go to a great school and be successful any where they go.

yeah mine too. Trying not to get my hopes up for Irvine though. I do think it means that they're started processing your app.
-
I wonder if it's the same for Irvine.
-
Maybe I'm wrong, but up until yesterday, I was only seeing an application reference number and not a UID number. Now I have two numbers listed on the portal. Can anyone else confirm this?
-
https://accounts.iam.ucla.edu/lookup "If you are affiliated with one of these populations you have a UID number: New UCLA students (including admitted and waitlisted students)"... so maybe there is hope? I'm trying not to read too much into it.
-
Oh shit. I looked it up and it seems like all students get an ID number. They are one of my top choices, so I'm really hoping to hear back soon. Major congrats on your acceptance!
-
I see that on my UCLA portal as well. It looks like they are releasing some more decisions today. Hopefully that's a good sign.
