Anyone who was accepted into a Yale Painting/Printmaking- can you please share your website if comfortable? I’d love to see!!!
-
Good luck to everyone with their Yale decisions this weekend or upcoming week. Kick some ass and for those who don’t get the decisions they wanted or expected, come back stronger and keep your head lifted high. Not the end of world. ?

HAHA you guys are so helpful! Thank you- I definitely need to do that. I’ve always wanted to do art but somehow just loved science and wanted to get a BS in that field because I knew I wouldn’t be pursuing it so might as well go into the STEM field during undergrad.
-
What’s your standpoint on Columbia when it comes to their funding and financial aid? Do they fund students well like Yale or...?
-
Oh my god! Thank you so much. I definitely will because I don’t know how to answer that question properly. I love art and I love science, LOL.
-
Anyone here with a degree in biological sciences? Or even any other degree rather than art? How do you guys answer the interview questions when they ask why art when a degree in science? I mainly got a degree in science bc I knew MFA programs didn’t require art degrees so I could get a decent job after graduating and save enough money for art school.

I second that. These schools are losing out on some real talent.
-
You got rejected from hunter????? LOL Amazing!!
-
I’m so sorry. I’m sure you’ll hear back soon. Best of luck to you! I was surprised to see that Hunter wasn’t as competitive as other art schools even with the extremely low tuition. My website is mahnoorspallart.com! My entire portfolio isn’t on there since I have a separate one for set schools with all my work for school purposes and when it comes to copyright towards my ideas so I don’t share my artwork much and won’t until acceptance. Also, I totally feel you. My #1 was Yale but they’re just so competitive and almost impossible but I would be happy with any school that offers a good opportunity. Keep your head up! but please if you feel comfortable and applied to hunter share your work! I’d love to see what they’re looking for!
-
And that’s exactly why I love doing art. I completely agree with you!
-
For those who applied to hunter? Would you mind sharing your websites? Is there something certain they are looking for? I should have applied but didn’t have enough information on them. This sounds like an amazing school with a lot of opportunities and their tuition is almost NOTHING.

With law it’s tough bc you have to graduate from a top law school like Emory or Georgetown, etc. but for medical I doubt it because we have had a HUGE decrease in MD’s because everyone is going into PA school (large decrease in primary care physicians which is internal medicine). Many people in medicine now want to specialize and a crap ton are going into anesthesia which pays around 500K a year and is a definite job. Medicine and dental give you definite jobs for sure no matter what university you graduate from but law I can definitely see where individuals have a hard time. My fiancé is in dental school and he’ll be starting residency soon but the problem is that while he’s gonna be chilling working 3 days a week making almost 300K a year I’ll be hustling my ass off creating art and trying to get myself out there as much as I can. It’s SO hard and I feel like artists are so under appreciated but in our time are slowly coming to appreciation. These art schools need to chill with their tuition because that’s almost as high as what a NP or a PA comes out of grad school with and both bringing home about 150K a year. I just cannot fathom to get an MFA that costs me to go into debt over 100K (heck even 70K) because your success comes through your hustle and hard work, not the school.
-
But the thing is if you’re in medical, dental or law school you’re promised a definite job. For artist it’s all about the hustle and working non stop to get where we want.
-
Has anyone here had their Yale Painting/Printmaking interview? If so, how was it?
-
Jeez, the thing is that success isn’t promised after Columbia as it all depends on the artist but to take a risk with being in 6 figure debt, god no.
-
Wait wait wait I thought they were taking in 10 students for the painting/printmaking department? Woah lol so glad I didn’t get in this cycle bc for me inspiration and motivation comes from the people around me as well. Would hate to be the only student for painting in my class.
-
I just can’t bring myself to attend Columbia bc I’ve heard terrible things about the MFA department as well. I have surprisingly heard really good things about NYAA when it comes to their funding/financial aid. Does anyone know more insight on this?
-
Received notice about another interview from Parson. Did anyone else on here? Is that good or bad bc I thought it was just one round? Also, is it just me or are the rates for these schools ridiculously expensive. Especially for schools being in NYC. Yale was another story since they have a great financial aid package/funding program. But like it’s scary to accept an offer with Columbia, Parsons, NYAA, etc. to only come out with as much debt as a healthcare professional would. I don’t want my Dad having to pay for my entire tuition when I’m 25 and working due to not making ends meet when I graduate. Jesus, LOL. Has this ever led any of you to reject an offer?
-
I agree! A lot of money spent on applications but Yale was my #1 school because it has great funding from what I’ve heard. I wish I had gotten in this cycle because “we would like you to reapply” on my rejection letter just got me down even more. My fiancé is in medical school and if I had gotten in I would have graduated the same time as him and he’d easily be able to start his residency. I just wish it was a straight up rejection and they hadn’t even mentioned reapplying because that got me down even more LOL. I’ll take my talent elsewhere, sigh! ?
-
I agree with you completely! My mom received her graduate degree in interior design from an Ivy League and she’s always told me that these schools need us more than we need them because our success comes through originality within our artwork which always gives the school an even better reputation as they carried the successful student as a candidate.
-
I completely agree! It’s definitely all crap. There’s probably 1-2 successful artists from Yale that I’ve seen/ heard of who are making 6-7 digits income through their success and one of them happens to be the artist who created Obama’s portrait. Damien Hirst is worth billions and he didn’t go to Yale and neither did Jeff Koons. Don’t let a school determine your success because that comes down to you and your originality ONLY. Your artistic ability is what’s going to get you far not a degree. Also, I’ve seen a lot of students coming out of RISD, UCLA, Slade and NYAA and becoming a huge success whether it’s making art and selling or holding exhibitions. You all got this!
-
Mine! But I can’t apply again cause the timeline doesn’t work for me! ?
-
My art is very abstract/realistic? I really thought I had a good chance when it came to Yale because their past students, about 80% from what I have seen focus more on 3D and abstract rather than realism. I've seen VERY few that students that paint within realism at Yale. My art also focused around middle eastern culture so I guess it wasn't what they were looking for!
-
What school is this for?
-
Ahh! I just applied to New York Academy of art? Please enlighten me! How did it go? Also, is their deadline until February or March? I had schools mail my transcripts since they do not not receive any other way or format.
