  1. Got into Duke, woohoo! They said I'd get details of funding by snail mail - wait, that's another three weeks!
  2. Have any international students got an acceptance/rejection yet from Georgetown? All this talk of funding letters is making me jittery about admission - I need closure!
  3. Thank you. I got the decision about a week back by e-mail - they sent me a scanned copy of the letter which they sent by snail mail (which was dated 12th Feb and still hasn't reached me ) I've been offered a stipend and some tuition remission, which together will cover most of my tuition for the first year.
  4. I'm an international student too, and I got an admission letter without having an interview (at least, not yet). So I don't think it's to do with your not being from the US. Maybe they want to discuss your application in more detail? (or maybe they're going to give you a fat aid package and wanted to tell you personally )
  5. orisinal.com is a great waste of time!
  6. veeraa, dagger was only referring to this handy little link: http://web.ics.purdue.edu/~ssanty/cgi-bin/eightball.cgi . put another way, it simply means nobody here really knows exactly what it takes to get into those schools. (we're all hoping we have it, though) you seem to have an excellent academic and professional record, and the extra months between now and when you apply will no doubt increase your chances of getting in. your economics courses will also probably help you. i think that in a month's time, everyone here will have a better idea of what each school looks for in its candidates!
  7. WWS seems to revel in scaring people by not putting up updates on the Embark form. I had a crisis a day before the deadline when I thought they hadn't got everything I'd sent them. But they said that material uploaded or submitted online wouldn't show on the tracking sheet. Maybe they judge applicants by their responses to a crisis? I think we're all doomed, in that case.
  8. Got an email from Duke saying they would "be providing admission decisions within the next couple of weeks, if not sooner". Two weeks - that shouldn't be too stressful, right? *head explodes*
  9. congrats, younglions! i hope you can manage to focus on your vacation while you're on it!
  10. I got into UMD-College Park! They told me by e-mail today, and said I'd be getting the admission letter by post soon. It's not my first choice, but I'm still happy to get an acceptance! I have to give them a decision by April 15th, so that's pretty standard. I also got the funding details with the admission letter - my tuition's almost fully covered for the first year. The other expenses will still be too much for me to bear (I'm an international student), so I think I'm going to have to ask them to up it substantially if I do decide to take it. Yay!
  11. Thanks Linden! How I wish my admissions committees share your thoughts..
  12. This thread has fallen ominously silent! Are people getting rejections? Or are they getting acceptances and staying silent so that they don't jinx it? I haven't heard anything from anyone yet, so I'm slowly-but-surely freaking out...
  13. Congrats policy_applicant, seattle girl! I applied in mid-October too, so I think I'm sunk now...
  14. I think I see a fellow KSG applicant. I'm in the same position myself, wondering how different my MYFAID essays need to be. I heard from a friend at Harvard that the individual fellowship committees don't even have access to your main file, which is why they ask for a copy of your resume. I'm assuming that means I can nick some stuff off my SOP then, and write similar-sounding essays. But this is all hearsay - if you hear something more authoritative, please post it!
  15. Has anybody here applied to Columbia's new MPA in development practice? I'm a law graduate (GPA 3.5) with 4 years of WE as a journalist. GRE scores are 770V, 760Q. Do I have a shot?
  16. I wrote to HKS asking them (a) whether the essay should be in the form of a memo (since the HKS form doesn't say), ( how narrow a topic I can choose, and © whether the essay was looking for analytical skills or the feasibility of the proposed solution. Here's the reply I got: "The policy essay does not need to be in memo form, but the majority of applicants submit in that form. This essay is one of the components that measures your analytical skills. I suggest choosing a topic that you personal and professional interest. "
  17. That's what I wanted to know too. I've been trawling the net for more information, but haven't found anything. I've posted the query on a couple of other forums, so I'll share whatever I get from there..
  18. HKS and WWS both ask for a policy memo in which you identify a public policy problem and suggest solutions. Does anyone know how narrow a topic I can choose? What exactly are they looking for in the essay - the originality of the solution, or just the ability to write in a specific formal policy-like way?
  19. FSIA: That's good to hear! I got a 30 in my TOEFL writing, so hopefully that'll count for something too. Rockstar: Thanks! I did quant from Barron and Nova, and since I was pretty confident about verbal, I just did the Big Book tests. I also did practice tests from Kaplan, Princeton and of course Powerprep.
  20. I'm an international student applying for an MPP/MPA at KSG, WWS, Duke and UMD. I took my GRE last month - I got 770 in verbal and 760 in quant, but my AWA score is an abysmal 4.5. Should I do the test again? Or will my other scores be enough to get me through? I have three years of WE as a journalist. Does anyone know if the AWA score review's any good?
